“When you were in prison, you behaved well enough to get out as soon as possible, all to get the money for the child’s
surgery.
“After you got out, you lied to me, saying you gambled and got the funds for the operation from me.
“You even forced yourself to sleep with me for a month, didn’t you? All to get pregnant again, so you could use the umbilical cord blood for Lola’s surgery
“Raelynn, do you think I don’t know anything?”
“Enough.”
Talking about those tough times was hard because it inevitably brought up painful memories.
And those were the very memories she desperately tried to forget.
Fighting back the sadness in her heart, Raelynn inhaled sharply and looked up at him, her gaze cold. “Kendrick, knowing now doesn’t matter. You’ve never even seen the child since birth. Aside from the fact that your blood runs through her veins, I really don’t know what connection you have with her.”
With that, she lost her composure and tried to escape.
But as she passed by him, her wrist was suddenly seized.
Raelynn furrowed her brow. In the next moment, she was pulled into a solid chest.
Her forehead collided with Kendrick’s chest, and before she could react to the pain, his fingers lifted her chin.
In that instant, all her thoughts and breath were stolen by him. His large hand held her head as his warm tongue slid into her mouth. “Raelynn, it’s been so long.”
Kendrick closed his eyes, greedily taking in her breath, exploring every corner.
The sudden kiss hit her like a storm, leaving her no time to prepare. Raelynn’s mind went blank, and she even forgot to struggle.
Kendrick seemed to use all his strength to hold her tighter—more, tighter.
The increasing panic nearly consumed her. Raelynn finally snapped back to reality, panicked and struggling fiercely.
The moment she fought back, Kendrick let go.
His dark eyes, like a deep abyss full of untold stories, locked onto her with a gentle smile. His voice was full of emotion as he said, “Raelynn, wait for me.”
The kiss that had just thrown her into disarray seemed to be the last straw. Hearing his bitter voice nearly shattered the walls she had painstakingly built around her heart.
She couldn’t be so weak.
Raelynn had cried so much already; she couldn’t just turn back again.
But even after Kendrick had been gone for a long time, Raelynn stood frozen in place, her feet feeling like they were bound
in chains, unable to move. She could only stay in the world Kendrick had made for her, trapped within it.
And what was that faint pain in her chest?
Kendrick was in prison.
Raelynn thought she would lose control for a while, but she would quickly recover.
But whether she threw herself into work, exhausting her body, or drowned her sorrows in alcohol, nothing could make hef/2

joyful again.
It felt as if she had spent the first half of her life in a long dream, and now that dream had finally ended.
The debts had been repaid, but there was no victory or sense of accomplishment.
Only endless disappointment and sleepless nights.
She had no idea how Kendrick was doing in prison.
While Raelynn was resting in her office, her assistant walked in with a puzzled expression.
Her sleep had gotten worse. Any sound would wake her from her slumber.
She opened her eyes and looked at her, offering no reproach. “What is it?”
“Linda, these are the materials sent by Reece Group today.”
“Reece Group? Are you sure it’s for me?”

Raelynn snapped fully awake, Kendrick had been in prison for over a month now. Who would still be contacting her?
“Definitely for you.”
“Do you know who sent them?”
“It seems to be Tim.”
At the mention of the name, Raelynn’s delicate brow tightened imperceptibly,
