Chapter 38 Vanishing
Chapter 38 Vanishing
For a moment, Thea thought the woman in front of her looked strikingly like Raelynn.
Both women shared a fierce, unyielding pride, and just now, that familiar feeling came rushing back.
Thea shook her head in disbelief.
Here could this best That woman had disappeared one or two years ago!
She stood there, stunned, until the man’s exhausted voice slowly echoed from behind, pulling her back to reality.
“Thea, let’s break off the engagement”
“What? Ken, do you even realize what you’re saying?!”
“I know exactly what I’m saying
Thea, seeing the unwavering look in his eyes, felt a wave of panic wash over her.

“No! No! I won’t agree! I don’t want to break off the engagement. You can’t do this to me, Ken. You were the one who proposed to me in the hospital! I haven’t done anything wrong. You can’t just change your mind like this!”
Tears streamed down her face as she clung to his arm, refusing to let go.
Kendrick closed his eyes in frustration. “Don’t make me keep looking down on you.”
Why? Why are you calling off the engagement? What did I do wrong? You’re the one who cheated!”
“Thea
Kendrick’s expression shifted suddenly, his eyes flashing with anger. He spoke in a low, heavy voice, “Don’t want to break off the engagement? Fine, as long as you return the kidney you owe me.”
The casualness of his words made Thea’s face turn pale.
She stared at him, stunned. How did he know?
Kendrick didn’t seem surprised by her reaction. The weariness in his eyes deepened as he continued. “You should know I despise deceit and betrayal more than anything. Thea, you’d better agree to break off the engagement. Just so you know, I bought your father’s company last week. If you don’t want to see your parents hurt any further, stop clinging to this.”
At his words, Thea’s expression changed rapidly. Hatred slowly flickering in her eyes.
She knew there was no turning back now, but the bitterness inside her had nowhere to go. For some reason, the image of that woman suddenly appeared in her mind.
“Kendrick, the only reason you’re keeping that woman around is because of Raelynn, isn’t it?!”
She received no response.
Noticing the shift in his expression, Thea let out a bitter laugh. How do you still not understand? Raelynn is already dead! She’s gone! She’s dead, do you hear me? She’s dead! A substitute is always just that–a substitute! No matter how much she looks like Raelyrm, she’ll never be her!”
Shut up!
It was like a sharp blade had stabbed into Kendrick’s chest, a searing pain spreading through him
Thea’s words were the final straw that broke the camel’s back.
During his time with Linda, Kendrick knew better than anyone that he was only seeing the shadow of Raelynn in her
He understood more than anyone that she was just a comfort, a replacement for the woman he had lost
“Get out! Leave! Now!”

Thea, looking into Kendrick’s bloodshot eyes, trembled with fear as she was tearfully thrown out of his house.
That night, Kendrick once again drank himself into a stupor.
In the dream that followed, he saw that woman, forever alive in his memories.
In the dream, she walked with her back straight. Though small in stature, she radiated the strength of a mother’s determination.
