Chapter 35 Unusual
“Maybe just a little,” Raelynn shrugged, letting out an enticing, seductive smile. “After all, Mr. Reece has been so eager to find me. I thought maybe it was because there was no woman at home, so you were looking for someone wilder out there.”
She gave him a look of mock sympathy, shaking her head. “I almost feel awful for your girlfriend. I wonder what she’d do if she found out her man was in bed with another woman. Would she be furious, perhaps?”
Kendrick stared at her intently, unwilling to miss a single shift in her expression.
But after a long moment, he saw nothing out of the ordinary.
The familiar feeling of disappointment and frustration bubbled up inside him, and his headache only deepened.
Raelynn glanced at him, her fingers tightening slightly. “Well, I’m going to shower for now.”
With that, she turned and walked toward the bathroom.
When Raelynn came out of the bathroom, wrapped in a towel and damp from her shower, she froze. On the bed, in the most obvious spot, lay a set of clothes she used to wear. She blinked, about to speak, but Kendrick’s commanding voice cut her off.
“Put them on.”

At the sound of his voice, an unexpected wave of frustration surged inside her.
She could share intimate moments with this man, but she would never again be the Raelynn she once was.
That name was in the past.
It was long dead.
“Since I’m just going to take them off anyway, why bother putting them on? Isn’t it better this way?”
She tossed her wet hair back and, with a swift motion, ripped off the towel, lying down on the bed.
Kendrick’s gaze swept over her. Her skin was soft and flawless, her body a clean canvas. Her long, pale legs were slightly apart, with the sheets barely covering her.
Her pose was lazy and sensual, igniting him almost instantly.
Kendrick’s eyes darkened. In a few quick movements, he shed his clothes and leaned over her.
What followed was several long hours of tangled passion.
He lost count of how many times he came inside her. Despite her extreme exhaustion, Raelynn managed to stand up make her way to the bathroom.
She sank into the tub, letting the water completely surround her.
Only in the water could she escape the presence of tears.

Before today, Barlynn could control her emotions effortlessly. Even though she couldn’t remain perfectly calm in front of this man, she had always kept up a flawless facade.
But now, he had brought her home.
Back to the place they had once shared for so many years. They were in the same room, sharing the same bed, and engaging in the most intimate activities.
It felt like everything had returned to the past
She was still the innocent, bright girl in front of him, the joyful woman he had once pampered and adored.
At the time, she hadn’t been to hell.

She had no idea how dark the world could be, how treacherous people could be, or how many faces a person could wear.
She believed at the time that fate would always favor her.
Old memories, long buried, rushed back to her mind. Raelynn sank deeper into the water, tears streaming down her face.
Just this once, she would let herself break down. Just once.
When she stepped out of that bathroom, she would be Linda.
Raelynn noticed Kendrick’s absence from the room half an hour after she had dressed.
She went downstairs to find him.
She searched the living room but didn’t see him. Just as she was wondering where he could be, she heard some noise coming from the kitchen.
Turning around, she saw him–tall and imposing, wearing an apron that didn’t quite fit his physique, holding a dish as he walked out of the kitchen.
“When you’re ready, come cat.”
It wasn’t until Kendrick called her that she snapped back to reality.
