The man, tapping away at his keyboard, didn’t even lift his head. There was a cold, distant look in his eyes. His boss’s calm demeanor only made Tim furrow his brow.
The more normal he appeared, the clearer it was–the situation had deteriorated beyond hope.
“Also, for the next year, I’ll be focusing entirely on the company’s development. As for Thea, you can use work to cover for me. Push the wedding date back, and don’t explain anything to the family.”
“Understood, Boss.”
“You can leave.”
It wasn’t until much later that Tim began to understand the kind of calm he had seen in the man’s eyes.
There was a kind of despair, like stagnant water barely rippling.
Even if he desired to surrender, it was already too late. From the very beginning, he had been stripped of any chance to get out of the game. The hopelessness of unreturned love would consume him bit by bit in the long years to come,
with no salvation in sight.
Six months later, in Astua.
At the hospital, the red light above the operating room finally turned green. The doctor in the white coat took off his mask and emerged, a smile spreading across his face. “The surgery was a success!”
Raelynn’s tears burst forth, streaming down her cheeks.
Lola’s surgery had been made possible by the umbilical cord blood of her youngest son, Orion Elway. Raelynn felt that all the hardships she had endured in the past year had been worth it, knowing that her daughter had survived.
By the seaside, the woman placed a flower into the sea, letting the wind tangle her long hair.
“Dad, Lola’s going to be fine.”
Today was the anniversary of her father’s death, but she couldn’t be there to visit his grave. She could only hide away in a foreign country, living a life of caution.
But from this day on, the Raelynn who once lived in hiding would no longer cower in the shadows.
“It’s my turn to get revenge now. Dad, you’ll help me, won’t you?”
By the sea, on the rocks.
The woman wore a flowing purple chiffon dress, her makeup perfect, her features strikingly beautiful.
The wind caught her skirt, and in the dimming evening light, she seemed like a demon risen from the depths of hell.
Raelynn’s memories slowly came back, bringing forth images etched deep into her soul.
She remembered the naive, romantic girl she once was, the love she had received, so pure and enviable.
From being slowly, fully pampered to the fullest by him to being cruelly thrust into hell. Her heart had shattered and pieced itself back together only to be crushed again, like shattered glass scattered across the ground.
She could clearly remember Kendrick’s cold, ruthless face.
Raelynn’s fist tightened, her fingers sinking into her own flesh. The hate and regret in her heart slowly began to overwhelm her.
“Kendrick, my father ruined your mother. You killed him. The debts of the previous generation are settled,

Her eyes narrowed into a dangerous, beautiful curve, a smile curling at the corners of her lips.
“Now, it is time to settle the score between us.”
Later that night, she was in her apartment.

The woman took out a bottle of liquid—a cutting–edge biomedical product that she had instructed Alberto to acquire for her on the black market in America.
Raelynn lifted her shirt and gazed at the two scars on her abdomen. Her expression hardened.
Kendrick, these are your gifts to me.
I’ll make sure to take them all back, piece by piece.
She poured the scar–removal liquid and smeared it across her flat stomach. Hours later, the scars began to fade, and her skin seemed to renew itself.

A satisfied smile spread across her face as she erased every trace of the past.
Having died once, she knew there was no turning back. She had to either go mad or fight to live.
This time, she would make sure to win back everything, with interest.
Six months later.
“Quickly! The bidding meeting is about to start! Are the materials ready?”
Outside the meeting room, the company staff were all on edge, preparing for the hard battle ahead.
