Chapter 26 Regret
Chapter 26 Regret
Kendrick stood by the window, hands clasped behind his back, his solitary figure cold and distant. Tim couldn’t see his expression, but he could feel the simmering, pulsating anger and the deep, almost imperceptible threads of regret that wound through it.
Tim stood frozen for a moment, suddenly understanding everything.
“Mr. Reece, I’ll take my leave now.”
Kendrick raised his hand slightly, still saying nothing. The atmosphere in the office had become heavy with tension.
It wasn’t until Tim had left that the suppressed emotion inside Kendrick finally erupted, like molten lava, scorching his entire being.
Kendrick’s body trembled uncontrollably. His eyes were bloodshot, veins bulging in his forehead and on the back of his hands. He was on the verge of losing his mind.
“Raelynn, this is how you’ve been lying to me! All these years, this is how you’ve been deceiving me!” he shouted.
In a burst of rage, he threw the nearby chair across the room, tears spilling from his eyes uncontrollably.
“You told me you lost everything in a gamble and sold a kidney to pay your debt!”
He vaguely remembered how the woman spoke so casually, almost indulgently. Even deceiving him, she could remain so nonchalant.
She’d hidden the truth about the child from him, and losing a kidney seemed to barely affect her. Kendrick couldn’t even bear to think about how many other secrets she’d kept from him.
Raelynn, you called me heartless.
But how could you do this to me?
When you said you would disappear, you truly made sure I could never find you again.
If Kendrick had once sent her to prison with a single decisive blow, then Raelynn’s revenge was a far worse punishment–a slow, agonizing death, one cut at a time.
No matter how broken his heart was or how it shattered his soul, she would never return.
“Ken …”
The woman’s soft, tender kiss came unexpectedly. Kendrick’s hand reached up to catch her, his strong arm pulling her closer. The kiss deepened, enveloping them in a sea of passion.
Raelynn’s lips swelled from the intensity of his kiss, her face flushed with desire.
To Kendrick, she was poppy–irresistible and all–consuming.
A surge of electricity coursed from his spine to the top of his head. His body grew hot, and before he knew it, he had pulled her into him, taking her entirely.
His movements were forceful and unyielding, claiming Raelynn completely. His hand gripped her curves, swallowed her moan and saliva, refusing to let her escape.
After what felt like an eternity of restraint, he finally shot out. A blinding light flashed before his eyes as sweat drenched his body. He collapsed against her, his lips leaving traces of affectionate kisses on her skin.
When Kendrick woke from this passionate dream, he felt a dampness between his legs.
In the darkness of the night, he sat on the bed, inhaling deeply from his cigarette, the smoke swirling around him like a shroud.

Chapter 26 Regret
He should be satisfied, shouldn’t he? At least he had her in his dreams.
But his greed still lingered, regretting that it was only a dream.
Overwhelming sadness consumed him. It felt as though his heart was being sliced open again and again with a sharp knife, pain so intense he could barely breathe, and yet there was no one to share his grief.
In his haze, he saw her again, the woman he couldn’t stop thinking about.
Dressed in a soft yellow nightgown, she emerged from the bathroom, her body still damp, and slowly clawed her way towards his bed.
“Raelynn.”
Kendrick closed his eyes in pain, the crease between his brows deepening.
Where are you?
“Mr. Reece, are you sure you want to move back to the mansion?”
Tim hesitated, watching the increasingly cold, detached man.
After all, that place was filled with memories–painful, sorrowful memories.
Who would want to go back unless they were seeking more pain?
