Chapter 13 Surprise Visit
“Kendrick? Why didn’t you let me know you were coming?”
Thea had just finished her shower and was stepping out of the bathroom when she opened the door. Upon seeing the man, her eyes widened in surprise, and her lips parted in disbelief.
Kendrick gave her a sharp look, his brow furrowed and his eyes narrowing slightly. “I wanted to surprise you. But based on your reaction, I feel like this is more of a shock to you.”
Thea blinked rapidly, paused for a moment, and quickly reassured him, “No, no! It’s just that I wasn’t expecting it, that’s all.”
Kendrick didn’t respond, merely casting a quick glance her way before sitting down at the edge of the bed.
Thea couldn’t figure out the reason for his unexpected visit at this hour. Kendrick had never shown any interest in her, no matter how much she had tried to entice him before, he always stayed indifferent.
Could it be…
As this thought crossed her mind, her grip on the towel tightened slightly.
Thea carefully sat down next to him, and noticing he hadn’t said anything yet, she frowned in worry, nervously biting her lip. “Kendrick, I know you …”
Before she could finish, he cut her off.
“Thea, the surgery you had years ago. Was it very painful?”
His voice was casual, but his question immediately made her tense up.
She fought to keep her emotions in check, making sure her face didn’t betray her. Speaking softly, she responded, “They gave me anesthesia, so it wasn’t too painful. It was just uncomfortable once it wore off … ”
Kendrick interrupted her, “If you hadn’t willingly donated one of your kidneys to me, I would have died a long time ago.”
Thea’s brow furrowed slightly, and she couldn’t help but glance at the man. Kendrick seemed lost in thought, his brow furrowed deeply, as though he was reliving a memory.
“Kendrick, I love you. I would give anything, even my heart, if it meant saving you! Don’t feel guilty, and don’t keep saying these formal things.”
Her hand slowly, almost teasingly, moved up his arm, her eyes carrying a flirtatious look as she bit her red lips, her expression filled with a vulnerable charm that would be hard for anyone to resist.
Kendrick stopped her just as her hand reached for his chest, locking his dark eyes on her with a faint smile. “I understand. But could I see the scar you left for me?”
The moment she heard his voice, Thea felt a chill run down her spine. Her smile faltered, and for a moment, it felt as though her blood had turned to ice.
But she knew she couldn’t show any sign of weakness right now.
“Of course you can.”
The anxiety in her chest grew stronger, but she still managed to lift the bath towel, revealing the scar on her abdomen. Kendrick examined it closely, his face serious. His fingers lightly grazed over the scar, as if pretending to feel the pain.
It was uneven and of moderate length.
The scar was exactly where the incision from her appendix surgery had been.
Thea hadn’t lied to him.

Another medical record flashed in his mind. His hand quivered slightly as his gaze sharpened.
He slowly withdrew his hand, his eyes meeting hers with a calm expression. “Do you realize that every time I see this scar on you, I can’t help but wonder how deeply the person who gave me that kidney must love me to make such a sacrifice?”
Without hesitation, Thea responded, “Kendrick, you know how much I love you.”
“Yeah. I know.”
He spoke briefly, then removed his coat and draped it over her. “It’s late, get some rest.”
With that, he left without another word.
Thea remained sitting on the bed, her gaze fixed on herself. If she weren’t wearing his coat, she might have believed that everything that just happened was a mere dream!
What was going on with him today? Why was he acting so strangely?
Lying in bed, she found herself unable to sleep, her fingers gently tracing the scar on her body.
