7 Chapter 7
“Mom?” Caspian called out, his voice uncertain.
I couldn’t open my mouth, but I nodded through my tears.
He broke down, losing control. “Mom, who did this to you?”
His voice trembled. He sounded like a helpless child. Suddenly, he froze. He finally understood- the “bitch” Jennifer had been talking about was me.
Thankfully, Caspian quickly composed himself again. He picked up his instruments. “Don’t worry, Mom. You’re going to be okay. I’ll save you.”
He began to examine my body. The more he saw, the more he trembled. His voice shook as he asked, “Mom, did Jennifer do all of this? Including… sewing you up?”
I closed my eyes and said nothing.
My silence enraged Caspian. He tried to storm out of the room several times to find Jennifer, but Dr. Miles stopped him each time. “The most important thing right now is to treat the patient.”
Poor Caspian. He had always been a good son, but now, he was forced to confront the humiliation his own mother had endured. And worse, the one who had caused it all was the girlfriend he loved.
Under the effects of the anesthesia, I soon fell asleep.
When I woke up again, I was in an ICU bed.
Caspian was sitting beside me, his expression grim. He looked exhausted, with dark circles under his eyes. When he saw me open my eyes, he immediately rushed over and started fussing
over me.
I remained silent the entire time.
“Mom, where’s Leo?” Caspian asked, his voice trembling. He looked hopeful.
At his words, I finally broke down and sobbed. “Leo? Who’s Leo?”
Caspian staggered back and fell to the floor. He forced a weak smile. “Mom, what are you talking about? Leo is my brother. He’s almost seven. I bought him a LEGO Death Star for his birthday.” “Where is Leo?”
Just then, Jennifer was brought into the room by two security guards. She shouted arrogantly, “Do you have any idea who I am? How dare you lay your hands on me? I’m Caspian Hawthorne’s girlfriend. I’m going to marry him one day. You’ll regret crossing me!”

7 Chapter 7
She was as arrogant as ever.
The guards brought her to my bedside and forced her to her knees.
She looked up. When she saw me, her expression twisted even more. “You bitch! How are you still alive? How dare you show your face in front of me again?”
“This time, I’m really going to kill you!”
She broke free from the guards and lunged at me like a madwoman.
Almost instantly, Caspian kicked her to the ground.
Jennifer looked at him in disbelief, her eyes filled with hurt. “How could you hit me for this bitch? We’re over, Caspian Hawthorne! Do you hear me? I won’t forgive you even if you get on your knees and beg me!”
Caspian gritted his teeth and roared, “She’s my mother!”
Jennifer froze. Then, her expression changed in an instant. “You’re Caspian’s mother? No wonder you two look so much alike.”
Her change in attitude was astonishing, but I had no energy to appreciate it.
I was too weak to even slap her, so I said to Caspian, “You want to know where Leo is, don’t you? Ask her. She knows.”
Jennifer’s smile froze on her face. She looked around, only to meet Caspian’s bloodshot eyes. She swallowed hard and stammered, “I… I don’t know.”
Caspian stood up and slapped her across the face.
Jennifer’s cheek immediately swelled up.
She angrily grabbed his hand, trying to fight back. “You dare hit me! I’ll tell you where your brother is. He’s dead. Dead!”
She burst into hysterical laughter.
