6 Chapter 6
Caspian burst into the treatment room, surprised to see only Jennifer, holding a surgical needle and thread. “You’re just a physician assistant. What gives you the right to perform a procedure?”
Jennifer didn’t answer him. Instead, she looked at him proudly, as if expecting praise. “Caspian, I took care of a big problem for you. Aren’t you going to thank me?”
“What problem?”
Jennifer pointed at me and grinned. “This woman was trying to seduce you. Don’t worry. I’ve already taken care of her.”
Caspian froze. “What?”
Jennifer linked her arm with his and said coyly, “You’re not mad, are you? I know she was your first love, but I’m your girlfriend now. You can’t take her side. If you do, I’ll never speak to again.”
Caspian’s expression was grim. “I’ve already told you, you’re my first girlfriend,” he said impatiently. “Why don’t you believe me?”

Jennifer pouted. “You’re always lying to me. No man makes it to thirty without having his first love.”
Caspian was telling the truth. I had always been strict with him. And he was self–disciplined. Ever since he decided to become a doctor, he had devoted all his time to his studies, leaving no time for romance.
If he had dated before, he wouldn’t have been so easily fooled by Jennifer’s two–faced act. When Caspian fell silent, Jennifer threw a tantrum. “You’re still lying to me! I saw the bastard son your ex had with you. You asshole, how could you lie to me?”
Caspian’s pupils contracted. He asked again, uncertainly, “What? Bastard son?”
I finally summoned enough strength to raise my hand to get Caspian’s attention, but Jennifer noticed me first.
She walked over to the surgical bed and, right in front of Caspian, slapped me several times across the face. “You bitch! This is all your fault! You ruined our relationship!”
Caspian stopped Jennifer. “That’s enough,” he said angrily. “I’ve already told you, you’re my first girlfriend. I don’t have a bastard son. If you hurt her this badly, the hospital will be in serious
trouble!”
He leaned over to examine my injuries. Suddenly, his expression changed.
“Did you do this to her?” he asked.

Jennifer glanced at me contemptuously. “She deserved it!” Then, she clung to Caspian’s arm again. “You’ll take care of this for me, right? I know you love me. You’d be sad if I went to jail, right?”
“We can just say this woman came in with these injuries. We’ll just have to pay her family some money. A bitch like her is only after money anyway.”
Jennifer’s words grew more and more outrageous. She didn’t notice Caspian’s face growing darker with every word she spoke.
I had raised him to be a law–abiding, righteous man.
As I expected, he cut Jennifer off. “Tell me the truth. Were you the one who caused this person’s injuries?”
Jennifer paused. The next second, tears welled up in her eyes. “Caspian, I’m your girlfriend. We’ve been together for a year. How could you say that to me…”
Caspian’s patience was wearing thin, but he remained calm. “Go outside. I need to examine her injuries.”
Jennifer turned to leave, displeased.
Just then, Caspian called out to her.
Jennifer turned back happily, but Caspian opl
said, “Get Dr. Miles. The patient has lost a lot of
blood. Her injuries look severe.”
My face had been mutilated beyond recognition. So, he didn’t recognize me.
My entire body was covered in wounds, so Caspian still had no idea that the pathetic patient on the surgical bed was his own mother.
Jennifer stormed out of the room.
Dr. Miles came in.
As he cleaned my wounds, he defended Jennifer. “Jennifer went a bit too far this time, but she’s young. She was just scared of losing you.”
Caspian said nothing.
Just then, he saw the familiar scar on my wrist and the sapphire pendant that had slipped from my neck. He began to tremble with rage.
