I was stunned by the outrageous demand.
Jennifer shoved me impatiently. She grabbed Leo by the hair and shoved his ashen little face in front of mine.
I was utterly desperate.
All around me stood Deacon’s burly friends. Their lecherous eyes roamed shamelessly over my chest.
I clutched the collar of my torn shirt, shaking my head as tears streamed down my face.
Jennifer sneered. “I’m not in a hurry. I’m just not sure if this little bastard has time to wait for you to strip.”
My tears fell faster.
Caspian had once told me that Jennifer was kind.
I looked at the venomous woman before me and shuddered.
The men around me were still smirking.
“Strip! You’re a whore anyway, what’s there to be shy about?” they taunted. “I can see the outline of your tits. What are you hiding under that bra? Take it off and let us see!”
Jennifer took out her phone and started recording. “Anaphylaxis from a bee sting can be fatal within an hour. You do the math. How much time do you have left?”
I had no choice. For Leo, I had to do it.
I squeezed my eyes shut and quickly pulled off my top
Deacon let out a wolf whistle. “Gotta admit, Jennifer, the bitch has a nice body.”
I was raised in a strict household and later married into high society. I had never been so
. humiliated in my life. I bit my lip until I tasted blood. “Can you save my son now?”
Jennifer was still not satisfied. She panned the camera over my body, from head to toe. I turned my head away, but she grabbed my chin and forced me to look at the lens. “What’s the rush? That was just your top. Take off your bra, too.”
“And did you not hear me? I said, get naked and tell the camera you’re a slut and a gold digger!”
Deacon stared at me, his eyes filled with lust. “Yeah! Take off the bra! Hurry up!”
Jennifer sneered. “You don’t want to? Then I guess we’ll just let this bastard…”
Fearing she would do as she threatened, I cut her off. “I’ll do it!”

Trembling, I reached behind my back and unhooked my bra.
Jennifer watched me greedily. I looked into the camera and said slowly, “I’m a gold digger. I’m a slut. Please, save my son…”
A slap sent my head whipping to the side.
“Who told you to add that last part? I just need you to confess your sins. Nothing else.”
“He’s really not a bastard,” I pleaded. “He’s Caspian’s brother. Please save him. If you just save him, I won’t press any charges.”
Jennifer snorted, crossing her arms. “You won’t press charges? Who the hell do you think you are to press charges against me? Don’t flatter yourself.”
She grabbed my hair again and slammed my head against the wall. “You arrogant woman! You make me sick!”
As if that wasn’t enough, she yelled at the men behind her, “What are you waiting for? Get your phones out and film this!”
Flashes went off all around me. There was nowhere to hide.
I panicked and tried to run, but I bumped into Leo’s gurney. I instinctively reached out to steady myself, my hand landing on his.
Wait.
My heart sank.
Why was Leo’s hand so cold?
A dark premonition washed over me. I told myself it wasn’t possible, but my hand still trembled as I moved it to check for breath under his nose,
Leo wasn’t breathing.
How could he not be breathing?
I shook Leo’s small body frantically, but he was limp, like a boneless doll.
Leo was dead.
When the realization hit, a tidal wave of fury consumed me. I had endured all of Jennifer’s humiliation just to get Leo a chance to live. And now he was dead.
I had no reason to endure it any longer.
I slowly rose from the gurney, my eyes filled with hatred, fixed on Jennifer. This woman… had killed my son.
Jennifer took a few steps back. “What… What do you want?”
