“How about I give you her phone number?” David’s voice came again. “But Aaron… and I mean this as your attorney… you stay away from her. Don’t go looking for trouble.”
“I won’t,” I lied. I had no intentions on staying away from Yve. I had no idea what I was going to do yet, but I might just let Fen pay her a little visit.
David hung up after that, and a moment later, my phone buzzed with a text. I looked up at that moment, and Jane’s eyes met mine. She held my gaze, never wavering. Fen howled, and at that moment, I knew what she was going to do.
I tightened my grip and pulled the phone from my ear to check it out.
“Aaron, no.” She plucked the device from my fingers with surprising speed. I guess those self–defense training sessions are coming in handy. “I’m not comfortable with you going to see her either.”
“Jane, you don’t understand…”
“I understand perfectly. I can literally smell the rage coming off you. You’re barely holding it together.”
I sighed. “Look… I just want to talk to her. I need to know why she did it.”
Jane studied my face. I could practically feel her wolf’s breath against my skin. “You want answers,” she said finally.

“Yes. I need them.”
What happened next caught me off guard. Jane’s expression shifted into one of determination. “Then I’ll go.”
“What?” The word came out strangled.
“I’ll meet with Yve.” Jane gently placed my phone on the bed, pushing it out of my reach. “I’ll get the answers for you.”
“Would you really do that for me?”
She touched my face softly. “Aaron, there isn’t anything I wouldn’t do for you.”
“But why?”
“Well for starters, I like you much better when you’re not in prison.” A bright smile flickered across her lips. Then she drew her hand across my face and leaned back against the bed. “Orange really doesn’t suit you.”
The comment should have made me laugh. Instead, I found myself staring at her in awe. This… this was the woman I met at Moonfall all those months ago. Who would have thought that a crazy guy like me would land someone like her?
There was something about her that made Fen act just as crazy as I was. I studied her face, trying to understand what it was about Jane. Maybe it was the way she looked at me like she knew exactly what game we were playing and was certain she was winning. Maybe it was the fact that she was willing to walk straight into my personal hell when I could barely stand to face my own demons.
Or maybe it was just her. Jane Ashford.

Without conscious thought, I found myself leaning closer. It was like a gravitational pull, drawing me like a moth to flame.
Her hand was back on my cheek now, tracing patterns against my skin. My wolf stirred. I didn’t plan on doing this, especially on a day like this, and I wasn’t even sure what I wanted to do. But I couldn’t stop myself.
I leaned in, letting my lips brush against the sensitive curve of her neck. “So you wouldn’t like me in prison after all,” I murmured against her throat.
“You’re unbelievable,” she whispered, but her hands had found their way to my chest, fingers curling into the fabric of my shirt.
“You’re giving in anyway,” I pointed out, pulling back to see the flush creeping up her neck,
Before she could protest, I drew her closer, one hand tangling in her hair while the other settled at the small of her back. The kiss that
followed was everything I’d been holding back.
Her lips were soft and warm against mine. I could feel the rapid flutter of her pulse beneath my palm. Fen howled in satisfaction. This was healing for him.
The only thing I recognized at that moment was the sweetness of her mouth, the way she melted against me, the soft sound she made whe
when I deepened the kiss. Nothing else mattered.
When we broke apart, both of us breathing hard, I found myself still staring at her in awe. “I don’t know what’s different about you, but you‘ re glowing.”
And I wasn’t imagining it.
