Chapter 89
I felt myself hesitating. I wasn’t sure that was the right thing to do. Calling David would mean ripping open the old wound of losing my
son.
“I don’t know if I can. Talking to David about the case again… it’s like going back.”
“But if anyone can find answers, it’s him. You know that,” said as she settled down on the bed beside me. “If Yve’s release was irregular, if there’s something that can be done…”
She was right. I knew she was right. I reached for my phone, which sat a few inches from Jane’s hand. As I drew it to me, Jane moved at the same time, her fingers brushing against mine.
My eyes found hers instantly. That singular contact sent an electric shock through my system. I found myself frozen in place by the sudden, overwhelming awareness of the woman beside me. Fen stirred eagerly beneath my skin. Her eyes didn’t leave mine, causing me to take in every single detail of her.
Her dark hair had fallen across her face as she leaned closer, the way her chest rose and fell with each breadth, the steady rhythm of her heartbeat that I’d grown attuned to. God, she was beautiful. I’d told her countless times, but somehow I never grew tired of the truth.”
Even now, all I wanted to do was kiss her and tell her once more.
Without tearing my gaze from hers, I dialed David’s number and held the phone up to my ear. He picked on the first ring.

“Aaron? What’s wrong?”
*Aaron*
“David, it’s about Yve. She’s been released.”
“Yve… Wait, you mean your ex–wife who… wasn’t she sentenced to ten years?”
“Fifteen,” I corrected, my jaw clenching. Jane placed a comforting hand over mine. “And she served only five. It has to be some sort of mistake.”
“Well, that’s…” he paused. I could hear the concern in his voice. “It’s highly irregular. Early release after serving only a third of the sentence? For a vehicular manslaughter involving a minor? I’m just as stumped as you are. How the hell did she get out?”
“That’s what I need you to find out.” Fen growled, the sound escaping my throat, making Jane’s grip on my hand tighten.
“Hold on,” David interrupted, and I could hear the clicking of keyboard keys. “What’s her full name again? I need to make sure I’m pulling the right records.”
“Yve Williams.”
More typing, and then a long pause.
“Aaron,” he began slowly. “I’m looking at the case file now. Yve Williams, age thirty–two at the time of sentencing. Convicted ‘of vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and pup endangerment, sentenced to fifteen years at Silver Fang Correctional.”
“Right. I know all that. So how?”

“She was released yesterday. Official reason listed as ‘good behavior and successful completion of rehabilitation programs.
My vision blurred red. Good behavior was a load of bullshit. Yve wouldn’t know good behavior if it hit her in the face.
“Someone must have pulled strings. That’s the only explanation. You don’t just walk out after what she did.”
“Aaron, I know this is hard to hear…”
“You don’t know the half of it. She’s walking free because daddy’s money bought her a team of cut throat lawyers. It was a miracle she was convicted in the first place. But I should have known the Williams family wouldn’t let it stand.”
They were ruthless that was for sure, and it was foolish of me to expect any less from them. Damn it. I should have seen this coming. I should have done something to stop this from happening.
“Look… the case file says she didn’t get into any trouble in prison. A model inmate if you will.”
I barely heard David. Right now, I could only see one solution. My eyes left Jane’s. I didn’t want to be looking at her when I made this
request.
“I need her address.”
I could almost hear Jane’s head snap to attention. But I still didn’t look
at her.
“Aaron, no. You can’t go near her. Think about what you’re saying.”
“I’m thinking perfectly clearly. Give me her address.”

“I can’t do that. It’s illegal, and it would put both you and the company at risk.”
He had a point, and I hated it. As Alpha, I had a duty, to my pack and to the company. I couldn’t jeopardize both just because of Yve.
