Chapter 83
Jocelyn exchanged a glance with the bald man. Damn it. I was always on top of my game when it came to interviews. But that question threw me off guard.
I managed a strained corporate smile. “I believe I can remain
professional in any situation. My focus is and will remain on Ominent’s strategic goals, regardless of who else is in the room.”
They all exchanged looks, but the bald man in particular leaned back slowly in his chair. One corner of his mouth lifted slightly. I could feel his wolf sniffing around, eyes watching me. But I remained as
professional as possible.
“Good,” Jocelyn finally said as she dropped her tablet and met my gaze again. “We prioritize professionalism here.”
I nodded. I expected as much.
They seemed to relax after that, but I could still feel the bald man… Jasper, his name card read… staring at me. He obviously didn’t believe me. I didn’t let that deter me. I answered all of their questions swiftly, merging my years of experience with the strength of Lucky to keep my composure.
Beneath my polite smile, I was seething. My fingers twitched with the urge to strangle Xander, but it remained folded neatly in my lap.
By the time they were done asking questions, Jasper had stopped watching me, and Jocelyn was beaming widely.

“Well… that’s everything we have for you. Do you have any questions for us?”
I nodded at Jocelyn. “Yes. What metrics or KPIs will be used to measure the success of the marketing team, and how will my performance be evaluated?”
Jasper nodded while adjusting his cuff then sat forward. “Good question. We’ll track metrics such as brand awareness…”
He launched into a detailed explanation and I found myself listening intently, asking follow–up questions.
“Well… from my experience, creative and data–driven marketing approaches can prove to be difficult. How do you navigate that tension?” I asked.
Jasper grinned. “You make them sit in the same room until they stop arguing.”
A few chuckles fluttered around the room. I even found myself cracking a genuine smile. It was obvious they were leaning heavily toward me.
But then, Lucky sensed a hostile energy. I turned towards the direction of the hostility. Her name card read Annika. She was seated beside Jocelyn, thick–rimmed glasses staring me down. There was a powerful aura around her… I knew immediately that her wolf was strong.
Her eyes remained on me till the end of the interview. By the time Jocelyn stood, my spine ached from keeping it straight. My face was frozen into the professional smile I’d mastered. I felt like I’d been holding that pose for hours.
“Thank you, Jane,” Jocelyn said, extending her hand. “This has been a

pleasure.
I stood, smiled and shook her hand. One by one, I moved down the line, Jasper’s handshake being the most enthusiastic. What a pleasant surprise that was. I saved Annike for last. I shook her hand firmly, leaning on Lucky for confidence and power.
“Thank you for your time,” I said. Then I turned and walked to the door. I passed the receptionist, who gave me a polite smile. I could barely lift the corners of my mouth in return.
I let out a long breath. The elevator door slid open just in time. When they closed behind me, I leaned against the mirrored wall and let my face drop.
The ride home felt longer than usual. Maybe it was because I was exhausted, or maybe because Mia had finally sent me the evidence I needed. I finally scanned through the video as I walked into my room. A smile tugged at the corners of my mouth. Perfect.
Let’s put an end to this divorce, Lucky said. I couldn’t agree more.
I sat at my desk, flipped my laptop open and sent the video to Hailey. Then I reached for my phone again.
I counted exactly thirty seconds before Hailey’s voice came through.
“Jane. I just watched your video.”
“And?”
“And you just saved yourself about ten thousand dollars in private investigator fees. This is better than anything we could have paid for.

We should…”
The call ended five minutes later. A strange feeling settled in my chest. I couldn’t determine what exactly it was. Pride? Exhilaration? Or perhaps I was relieved that I wouldn’t have to drain my savings account to prove what everyone already knew but refused to admit.
Xander was a terrible husband.
