Chapter 75
I pushed Mia aside and got out of bed. “Xander…” she called out, but I ignored her. I crossed the room and reached inside the vase.
I pulled out a tiny black object with a blinking red light. I turned it over in my hand. “What the hell is this?”
I turned it over in my hand, feeling my blood chill. “What the hell is this?”
Mia sat up, the sheet pooling around her waist. “What?”
I held it up between my fingers. “Why is there a camera hidden in the goddamn vase, Mia?”
*Xander*
Her face drained of color the second I held the camera. I’d never seen Mia this terrified. She opened her mouth, shut it, then tried again, but nothing came out.
“Mia… what the hell is this?”
She flinched, almost imperceptibly, but I saw it. Her fingers twitched her sides, then darted for the camera. She held it tightly, shoving it behind her.
“It’s nothing.”
I noticed her spine straighten defensively. Something was very wrong.
“No,” I protested. “I just pulled a hidden surveillance camera out of the

vase next to our bed. Tell me what the hell is going on.
She hesitated for a moment, then suddenly smiled widely at me. “It’s not what you think.”
“Then tell me what it is?”
Her smile deepened even further, but her shoulders were still stiff. “I wanted to surprise you for your birthday. It’s just a little thing I was planning. I’ve been recording little moments to put it all together.”
I narrowed my eyes at her. I didn’t buy it for one second.
“God, Xander, don’t look at me like that. You know what? If you’re going to ruin the evening, then I’m not in the mood anymore.”
I watched as her grip tightened around the device. She attempted to turn around and leave, but I grabbed her arm before her legs could
move.
“Tell me the truth, Mia.”
“Xander…”
“The truth!” I yelled. “Don’t make me ask again.”
She stopped moving. Her hands fell at her side and I could see that she was struggling mentally. “I…”
“Think twice before you speak. I’ll know if you’re lying.
“Fine,” she muttered. “Jane put me up to this. She threatened your baby‘ s safety Xander… our baby. What was I supposed to do? She wanted me to gather evidence… I had no idea she was going to have a camera installed in our bedroom until she sent me a text about it. I didn’t want

to go through with it, but I can’t put our pup at risk.”
Fen was on high alert. She’s lying, he whispered to me. I already knew that she was. The way she kept wringing her fingers, bouncing on her feet, and the fact that she couldn’t meet my eyes.
“That’s ridiculous. We’re in the middle of nowhere. Jane couldn’t have broken in alone, the security system here would have seen to that.”
Mia scoffed. “You’re still defending her? Did you already forget how she tried to harm me with that stun gun?”
“You were trespassing on her property.” God… I was losing my patience with this woman. “Mia, I don’t care what you think about Jane. You have five seconds to tell me exactly what is going on, or so help me God…”
“What, Xander? What will you do? You don’t care about me, or about this pup… all you care about is Jane, Jane, Jane.”
I gritted my teeth, struggling to keep Fen under control. But the more she mentioned Jane’s name, the angrier he got. Mia had no idea what she was about to unleash.
Attempting to calm myself, I took a deep breath and said, “Jane wouldn‘ t do that.”
“Well how do you know what your wife is capable of? You haven’t seen her in forever.”
I started advancing toward her, but stopped myself. “Back off, Mia.”
“No, I won’t. Jane isn’t worth the energy we spend talking about her.”
I lost it. Before any of us could blink, Fen growled and launched

himself. Fueled by his fury, I snatched both of her arms, pinning her in place. Somehow, I managed to control myself just enough that my grip wasn’t hurting her.
“Mia,” I began. I let Fen do the talking now. My eyes flashed red, voice deep and intense. Fen stared her down, and I could hear her wolf whimpering in fear. “Why the fuck is there a camera in the vase? And don’t you dare lie to me.”
