I finally looked at her. Her cheeks were flushed, eyes glowing with fury. I swallowed hard. “I don’t. Not really.” She blinked up at me. “I’ve had a rough couple of weeks. Since Jane left, I…” I dragged a hand through my hair. “Fen’s been angry, I’ve been all over the place. Jane just made everything right.”
Mia frowned. I expected her to lash out at me for always speaking about Jane. Instead, she launched into another tirade about my mother.
“Living with your mother is hell. She has no concept of privacy and constantly berates me. I’m not kidding, Xander. We need to move out,” she said as we stepped into the elevator.
“I know.”
“She treats me like I’m a live–in maid who got knocked up by her son.”
“I said I know. I’m on top of it, Mia.”
She folded her arms and didn’t speak again until the doors opened on the ground floor. Just like that, her posture shifted. She lifted her chin, straightened her spine, smoothened her hair and straightened her
blouse.
Mia nodded at Lily with a smile, her voice growing softer as she greeted my employees that passed by. I snorted under my breath.
“What?”
“There’s no need to pretend to be so humble. Everyone knows we live

together.”
Mia rolled her eyes, but said nothing as we walked through the glass doors and climbed into the black BMW I now drove since Jane had commandeered my car.
The drive back to my mother’s house was quiet. I occupied myself with thoughts of Jane. I could feel Fen’s urge for her. But she wouldn’t let me in. How would I make things right if she wouldn’t let me in.
Mia suddenly shifted beside me, her knee brushing mine. My eyes snapped to hers for a second, before going back to the road.
She edged a little closer. Her shoulder touched my arm this time. “Xander,” she said, poking me in the side. “Are you listening to me?”
I sighed. I knew what this was about. I kept my eyes fixed on the road as I answered. “Yeah. I’m listening.” Mia didn’t respond, so I added. “I‘ ll fix everything.”
And by everything, I meant my marriage with Jane.

I stared at the self–help book I’d picked up on a whim. Jane still hadn’t returned my call, and if she wouldn’t tell me how to avoid divorcing her, then maybe I’d turn to this author.
I relaxed into the pillow which was not as comfortable as the one in my home, and scanned through the first page. The first thing was loyalty. I‘ ve always been loyal to Jane. Even now, she’s still my priority.
The bathroom door burst open, temporarily distracting me from my

reading. Mia came out of the shower in one of my t–shirts. The thin cotton clung to her body, outlining her breasts. I glanced up briefly before returning my attention to the book.
She dropped onto the mattress with a dramatic sigh and nudged my thigh with her foot. “Hey.”
I didn’t answer. Just flipped a page.
She crawled closer, dragging her fingers along her stomach until she rested her head on my chest. “You know, pregnant women have needs too.”
I swallowed. I wasn’t in the mood.
She pressed a kiss just below my collarbone, then another one lower. “It’s been a while,” she whispered.
“I know.” I sighed. I couldn’t exactly neglect Mia because of everything going on. So, I gave in… reluctantly.
Mia didn’t waste a second when I tossed the book aside. My lips found mine, fingers caressing my chest. And I tried. I really tried to focus on her.
But even as she kissed my neck and whispered something teasing in my ear, Fen and I were kissing and touching someone else.
Damn it. I couldn’t stop thinking about Jane. We used to be so good together, so happy. When we made love, it was earth shattering. She filled my soul, made Fen so happy.
My eyes wandered across the room, searching for… hell, I didn’t even know what. There wouldn’t be any sign of Jane here anyway.

But then something caught my eye.
The vase in the corner, one of those ugly antique pieces Mother had her assistant purchased looked… wrong. I narrowed my eyes at it. It seemed like… and I could be wrong… but it seemed like something was blinking.
