Chapter 71

I don’t care what you think of me.And I meant it. Lucky didn’t even react to Mia’s words. She meant nothing to us. I left because you’re exactly what Xander deserves.”

You can’t blackmail me,Mia said, squaring her shoulders, wolf stirring again

Lucky sensed Mia’s wolf and reacted. She growled, and I could feel my gaze growing intense. You’re forgetting something very important.Shecrossed her arms, waiting. “Amelia.I watched as what I was implying dawned on her. Her arms fell at her side in defeat and her wolf backed down. “You know what would happen if this video gets to her. Everything you have now will disappear.”

She blinked a few times before her eyes dropped to the floor. Fine, she whispered. I’ll get you the evidence you need.”

My day just kept getting better and better. I turned my head slowly toward John. Your turn. You’re the one who sent her the video. The one of me and Aaron in the supply closet. I want it gone.”

Jane..”

Delete it. Now,I commanded, voice turning to a growl as Lucky bared her teeth, barely restraining her rage. John swallowed hard and nodded. Get dressed. Both of you. You’re coming with me

Ten minutes later, we were in the surveillance annex. I stood behind John as he slid into the chair. His fingers hovered over the keyboard. Find it,I growled again

I heard Mia flinch behind us as he began clicking through folders fast. He eventually pulled up the clip. The grainy blackandwhite image flickered to life on the screen. From this angleIt looked like

something was happening between Aaron and I. You wouldn’t be able to tell that it was a fake relationship

Delete it.He tapped the keyboard and the screen went black. Good. Now check the backups.”

He got to work, and I turned my gaze to Mia, who was hugging her arms like she was cold, even though the room was anything but. I moved my eyes back to the screen just in time to find John deleting every single back up of the video

Once it was all gone, I turned toward them with my palm open. Phone. Now.”

John didn’t bother arguing. He unlocked his phone, opened his gallery and showed me as he selected the clip and deleted it. Then emptied the trash

Good,I said, turning to Mia. She pressed her lips into a thin line, but did the same thing. Trash,I reminded her/ She exhaled but opened the deleted folder and erased it from there too

Happy,Mia snapped

I smiled. Ecstatic.” I reached into my bag and pulled out the envelope containing my resignation letter. I held it out to Mia. Be a dear and pass this on to Xander for me.”

What’s inside?”

That’s not for you to know. Just do as you’re told and make sure he

gets it.”

Mia flared up again. You’re really trying to ruin everything, aren’t you?”

I shook my head, kissed my teeth and looked at her with pity. Oh, Mia. You and Xander ruined everything a long time ago. I’m just putting everything back together. Two days. Don’t waste that time.”

I didn’t even really need whatever evidence Mia could gather. I had enough. The video on my phone would do plenty of damage if I needed it to. But it wasn’t just about gathering evidence. I wanted to watch them squirmit was satisfying. They’d done a lot to me. It was only fair that they paid exactly what they owedand then some

JaneI heard Mia begin to say, but I didn’t let her finish the sentence. I turned my back on her with a smug look on my face. As I neared the door, I glanced back one last time because I couldn’t help myself

Mia stood like a statue, clutching the envelope tightly. John still remained in the chair, staring blankly at the monitor. His shirt was wrinkled, zipper undone. He looked disheveled, like he’d taken the brunt of my demands and not Mia

I tilted my head and offered her a little smile. Tell Xander I said hello.”

Then I walked out of the surveillance room, head held high. Lucky stirred deep within me. It feels good to win, she said

And she was right. It felt damn good

Chapter 71

I frowned as I tore through the tenth envelope my mother handed me. My gaze drifted to the heavy stack of letters seated on the edge of the desk. All of them unopened
