By the time the early morning sun filtered into the master’s bedroom, I was already dressed for battle in a sleek, navy blue power suit. I slipped the resignation letter into my bag before walking out of the house. I climbed into my Rolls Royce and drove out of the house.
I paused for a moment when I arrived at the Blackwood group. I stared at the glass doors. My fingers curled around the envelope. I spent many nights here, reviewing various jewelry designs, furthering a business I thought I would be a part of forever. I barely felt anything except for detachment. There was nothing here for me anymore.
Resignation letter in hand, I climbed out of the car. I moved through the revolving door, heels clicking against the tiled floor, announcing
my presence.
The first person to notice me was Lily. Her mouth fell open like she’d seen. She stood up from her desk abruptly and brushed her palm against her skirt. “Ja… Luna Jane.”
I kept a polite, composed smile on my face. “Good morning, Lily.
“Alpha Xander didn’t mention you were coming in today.”
I didn’t bother answering or sparing her another glance. I just walked right past her. I could feel her gaze burning a hole into my back as I hit the elevator button. The doors slipped open after a second, and I stepped in.

Once inside, Lucky began clawing at me. There was something else I had to do first… it was more important than throwing this letter in Xander’s face.
I changed my mind and slammed the button for the service floor. The elevator jolted, the number counting down. The door opened to the large dim–lighted space. The air here was different, smelling of industrial carpet and cleaning supplies. Lucky sniffed eagerly, detecting the scent of burnt coffee, paint… It was a different setting.
I made my way through a row of storage rooms and office doors. And then, I found what I was looking for; the surveillance room. I swiped my old ID card across the reader half–expecting it to beep red and read unauthorized. But it didn’t. The light blinked green and the lock clicked.
So, I let myself in. Amelia should focus more on actual security rather than stealing hard drives.
The first thing that hit me was a deafening noise. I staggered back, shocked by how loud it was. Whoever built this place knew exactly what they were doing by soundproofing it. It was definitely for good
reason.
I walked in, moving through the heavy bass music. But as I moved deeper, Lucky detected a lower… more intimate sound. I struggled to pick it out, but I couldn’t. So I leaned into my wolf, allowing her to do the work for me.
My eyes widened when the sound became clear. Moans. It was low and strained. Someone was trying and failing to stay quiet.
Curiosity got the best of me and I found myself following the sound. Lucky sniffed again, this time detecting the scent of sweat and… other body fluids. The deeper I went, the louder it got. Skin slapping against

I turned a corner and stopped in front of a half–open door.
Through the narrow gap, a horrifying scene unfolded. I couldn’t bring myself to look away. My eyes widened as my brain pieced everything together.
There was a desk, covered in files, papers and old coffee mugs. A man stood behind the desk, shirtless, panting, moving violently. His hands gripped the hips of a woman in front of him like she belonged to him.
Her body was bent over, knees pressed to the cluttered surface. Her blonde hair slipped over her face in waves. But I knew that hair, the curve of her shoulder, and those ridiculous high heels.
Mia.
*Jane*
It took me all of five seconds to snap back to reality. This was actually happening. I’d actually walked in on Mia having sex with a man that clearly wasn’t Xander. I wanted to laugh. I expected Xander to cheat on Mia, definitely not the other way around.
I stared at them for another five seconds, wondering what to do with this… wonderful performance. Record it, Lucky offered. I gave her a pat on the head. What an amazing idea. I pulled my phone out of my bag, opened the camera app, flipped it to video and pressed record.
