Her gaze snapped to Xander again, but he didn’t meet her eyes. He just kept staring at me. I didn’t move either. I just lifted the stun gun slightly, making sure she saw it. Mia stiffened.
Her chest rose and fell as she looked at it, but she still took a step forward, wobbling on those ridiculous heels. “This is my home too…” she started, then wedged her foot between the door. She brought her hand up against my shoulder, trying to push past me.
Lucky didn’t hesitate. She spurred me on and I raised my hands, shoving me backward. Her body twisted, those absurd heels scraping against concrete as they tripped over each other. She yelped. It was a pathetic high–pitched noise. Then she stumbled and hit the ground with a thud.
Cue the fake tears. Mia curled into herself, arms wrapping around her belly like a shield. Xander lunged toward her immediately. “Mia,” he whispered, folding his body over hers and pressing his hand to her back. “Are you okay? Hey… look at me.”
Lucky didn’t react either. I felt her protective instincts surrounding me. She was on high alert, ready to strike again if need be.
She was full–on crying now, mascara stained tears smearing her cheeks. “She tried to kill me! She wants your pup dead, Xander. She wants the only Alpha’s baby dead.”
I rolled my eyes. This was just ridiculous.
Xander cupped her face, trying to soothe her. “I’ll take care of this.”

Then he turned to face me and slowly rose to his feet. He raised his hands up. I could sense him dropping his defenses, even his wolf seemed to back down.
“Jane. Let’s talk this through. We don’t have to do it like this.”
I laughed. Oh God, this was rich. “Talk? You want to talk now?”
He stepped forward. His eyes were calm and docile, no sign of the red pupils that made him Alpha.
“I know you’re angry…” he paused, glancing down at Mia still hunched beside him, whimpering like a wounded pup. “But this house…”
“Was purchased in my name,” I finished for him.
I watched as the words settled, as fear flickered across his face. Good. I took a slow step forward. “You have five minutes to get off my property.” Lucky growled, and the low sound came through my throat. “After that, I’ll stop being polite.”
It was a clear warning, and I knew Xander could tell my wolf was agitated. I glared at him, willing him to back off, but he did the exact opposite.
“Jane, come on… it’s me, Xander. I’m your mate. You can’t just kick me out of your life just like that,” he snapped his fingers to make a point. “We had ten years together. You have to remember how we started, how we moved to college together.”
I scoffed. He was taking me down memory lane, forgetting it was the memory of everything he’d ever done that was fueling my actions.
A tear slid down my cheek. But it wasn’t from sadness. It was from anger and frustration, from all the time wasted.

“I can make this right,” he continued. “Mia can go. I’ll…” he swallowed. “We can figure things out, Jane. She’ll be out of our lives, I’ll give her child support. Whatever you want.”
Mia’s face twisted in shock. She finally stopped her fake crying.
I ignored them and held out my hand to Xander. “Keys,” I said, nodding at his Rolls Royce.
Xander’s fingers twitched at his side, then he glanced at Mia. She sat up and clutched her purse. “Are you serious?” He nodded. Her hands shook as she reached into the overpriced leather. She held out the keys toward Xander first, but he nudged her toward me.
“I’m keeping the car,” I said, curling my fingers around the keys. “And the house.” I turned around without another word. I closed the door slowly, reveling in their shocked and angry faces disappearing behind the narrowing crack of the door.
I leaned my forehead against the wood once it was fully shut. A tear slipped down my cheek and I quickly wiped it away with the back of my hand.
I felt free.
*Jane*
Good riddance, Lucky said as I finally pulled myself away from the door.
Now that was done, there was another important thing I had to attend to… moving on with my life.
