Chapter 64
It wasn;t just that. It felt like a significant weight had lifted off my chest. Like every item I’d tossed aside from the closet had been sitting heavily on my heart.
Lucky let out a long throaty purr. She was relieved too. We were making space to breathe.
I made my way outside, breathless, grunting with effort as I dragged all the bags right next to one of the most important things to Xander. His expensive grill.
Oh, I was definitely about to put it to good use.
I opened the lid, pushed the button, waited for the indicator light to turn on and tossed it all in, one armful at a time. I stepped back, watching the flame catch. Sheets curled in on themselves, buttons sizzled. I smirked as one of Mia’s scarves lit up in flames.
I stayed there until it was all ash. Perfect. I left the lid open after everything burned down. I wanted Xander and Mia to see the little gift I’d left for them.
After that, I turned and walked back to the master bedroom. I took a shower, washing off the smell of smoke and Mia’s vanilla that still clung to me.
It was dark out when I dried off, pulled on my pajamas and let my dark hair fall down my back.
Just as I moved to climb into bed, I heard the low purr of a familiar

engine. Xander.
Good. This was the exact moment I’d been waiting for.
*Jane*
I opened the drawer of my nightstand and pulled out the stun gun I’d stuffed in there earlier. I let it hum to life, watching as the blue light flickered for a moment before turning it off. But I kept it at my side as I stepped into the hallway.
I could feel Lucky growling, preparing herself for her first interaction with Xander after weeks of being with Aaron. I paused at the top of the stairs, the floor creaking beneath my feet. I heard laughter. I almost burst into a fit myself.
Xander spoke to Mia lovingly as if they were the only two people in the world… in this house. I took the first step, raising my head high. moving slowly. It felt like I’d finally stepped into the role I was born to play. I was the queen of this broken, abandoned castle. And queen’s don’t run.
Their voices grew louder as I neared the front door. I could hear the way Mia’s laughter mirrored his, the way Xander responded to her with a low rumble that hinted at something more.
My feet came to a stop when I reached the front door. Do it. Lucky prompted me. I smirked, wrapped my fingers around the doorknob and pulled it open.
The looks on their faces… chefs kiss.
Xander froze mid–laugh. Mia’s hand hovered near his arm, fingers barely touching his jacket like they’d been close to kissing.

I paid attention to my wolf. She didn’t react to the sight at what used to be her mate. Instead, she growled and sneered. He betrayed us, should make him pay.
I let them look at me for a moment. This was the first time they were setting eyes on me since that horrid night. Mia had the decency to lower her gaze, but Xander… his eyes lingered on me for far too long.
He finally blinked. “You’re… back?”
I tilted my head. “I’m not back. This is an eviction notice.” Mia’s eyes finally met mine. I turned to her with a smug smirk. “You’re no longer allowed in this house.”
I watched in glee as my words hit her in the face. Her face turned red.
She took a step forward like she had the right to question me. “Are you serious right now?”
My fingers tightened around the stun gun. I could hear her heartbeat, could smell the anger and embarrassment on her. Mia opened her mouth again, but I cut her off with a flick of my wrist.
“Your things will either be burned,” I began, smiling slightly, “or neatly stacked by the grill. Depends on how long you stand here pretending you still belong.”
“What?!” Mia immediately turned to face Xander as if to say ‘Do something!‘
I didn’t need to raise my voice as I spoke. “I’m sure I didn’t stutter, Mia. You’re. Not. Welcome. Here. Is that clear enough for you now?”
