Chapter 51
Amelia leaned over and snatched it up before anyone could look at it. Her eyes widened as she took it in. “Seventy–thirty?”
I could feel David’s gaze on me. The fact that he wasn’t interjecting, meant that he completely agreed with me.
“You can’t be serious!” Xander yelled, rising to his feet. “At that rate, the company would have nothing.”
Typical Xander. Always thinking with his ego.
I held up a hand. “I’m not talking about your company.”
Amela straightened in her chair. “Then what exactly are you proposing?” I didn’t answer. I just stared at her with a pointed look, until she finally got it.
“You’re suggesting we give seventy percent of his personal assets to Jane? Is that what I’m hearing?”
I nodded. “Though let’s be honest… he owes her more than that.”
Rowan charged forward. “You have no legal claim…”
“Calm down, Rowan. I’m not even done yet.” I turned back to Amelia. “I would also require that the contract be revised to a two–year term. And that all previously discussed agreements be honored without any loopholes.”
Xander scoffed loudly and crossed his arms. I ignored him. He could

throw all the temper tantrums he wanted. I wasn’t going to back down.
I lowered my gaze to see David forcing a smile. He didn’t like this part of the plan. At least he wasn’t interjecting.
“And lastly, someone in this room needs to convince Jane to drop the charges.”
The room went oddly still. Even Xander, who had been pretty vocal the entire time, didn’t say anything.
Amelia was the first person to speak. “Color me confused, Mr. Lorenz. But if you don’t do that yourself, then what’s the point of all this?”
I looked her straight in the eye. “I want you to talk to her. You, Amelia. I want you to apologize to her, and I want you to mean it.”
Amelia burst into uncontrollable laughter. It was the first time I’d seen her without that evil smile on her face. “You think you’re so smart, don‘ t you?”
“I never said that. But if you’re offering compliments, I’ll take it. These are necessities for Jane. It also favors Xander and his pack. You have to accept my terms if you have your son’s best interest at heart.”
Amelia pressed her lips into a thin line. Her frown deepened as she finally realized that she had no choice. I saw the exact moment it dawned on her. Her eyes twitched, jaw locked as I watched her mind work. Then finally, she nodded stiffly.
Good. I didn’t want to spend even another second with these people. Fen howled happily as I adjusted my jacket and turned away. David swiftly collected his files and followed after me.
Before we reached the door, I stopped and glanced at Amelia one last

time. “It was nice doing business with you, Mrs. Blackwood.”
She didn’t respond. She just stared at me coldly. Amelia hadn’t expected me to have my way. She thought she’d swoop in pretending to be nice and I’d fall for her act. But I was smarter than that.
I didn’t wait for her to speak. I walked out with David. The second the door shut behind ys, I let out a long breath.
David clapped me on the back. “You’re out of your goddamn mind. But that was good. That was really good.”
Yes it was. I’d managed to hold my own in there, but it had been suffocating. And now that it was over, I felt a huge weight lifted off my shoulders.
*Jane*
I paused for the umpteenth time as I walked down Aaron’s long driveway. Every single bone in my body ached. My thighs, my calves, even the muscles in my arms burned. I’ve never been run over by a truck, but I was almost certain that even that wouldn’t hurt as much as
Becca’s brutal workout routine.
It was impossible to keep up with the woman.
I was convinced she was intentionally torturing me. It was probably entertaining for her. She smiled everytime I gasped for air, called me a champ while I questioned all of my life choices.
Fortunately, I walked out of there without any bruises. At least, she’d left me unscathed today. That was definitely a win.
I resumed my slow march down the driveway. Every so often, I’d clutch my knees as I moved, or put my hands on my waist. But today, the neat
