Chapter 46
“No.” I stood up and pulled her to me. “It’s perfect.” I deliberately forgot about taking things slow and kissed her fiercely. “Thank you.” I let out a breath, still holding her. “I’m wearing the watch tomorrow.”
Her brow furrowed. “Tomorrow?”
I sighed. “The meeting to terminate the Blackwood contract.”
Jane’s whole expression shifted. “You’re serious?” I nodded. “Aaron, they’re not going to just let you walk away from that. It could affect your company… it could affect you.”
I pulled her hand to my chest. “I don’t care. I promise you. I made this decision on my own. It isn’t just about you.”
But Jane didn’t seem to believe me. “I don’t want you to ruin your future because of me.”
“I’ve been thinking about this for a while. Long before all of this.”
“But what if you regret it later?”
“Jane…” I squeezed her hand gently. “I don;t make these decisions impulsively, especially as Alpha if Lorenz Pack.” I leaned in a little closer, so she could feel the sincerity in my voice. “Trust me. I know what I’m doing.”
She blinked up at me, her expression softening. And there goes my heart again, doing somersaults because Jane gazed at me.

“You’re really…” She paused, then shook her head. “You’re amazing, Aaron.”
My heart doubled its movements. I managed a small smile despite the wave of emotions in me and touched my forehead to hers. “Right back at you.”
It’s noon now. I was curled up with Jane only an hour ago. And now I‘ m standing in front of Blackwood Group. I’ve walked through the glass doors of this building a couple of times, but this time as I stepped through, it felt different.
It’s because I know Jane’s not in her office. I didn’t come here for her, I
came here to deal with Xander.
David Bush, my lawyer, a tall man with cropped hair stood beside me. He tugged at his Armani suit before clearing his throat. “You ready?”
I glanced down at the watch on my wrist. “Yeah.”
Just like clockwork, Lily appeared by the front desk with a fake smile, obviously following Xanders instructions.
“Mr. Lorenz,” she said, her voice sugary sweet. “Welcome back. Mr. Blackwood is expecting you.”
I offered her a tight smile just as Fen growled angrily. “That so? Thought maybe he sent you to make sure I remembered the way. You know, just in case the last time I was here slipped my mind.”
Lily’s smile didn’t waiver, but I caught the irritated twitch in her left cheek. “It’s company policy,” she said smoothly. “A courtesy for distinguished guests.”

I moved aside so David could fall in step beside me. “Of course. Wouldn’t want to break tradition.”

Lily smiled gracefully and led us toward the elevator. I noticed the subtle glances she kept sneaking toward David. But my lawyer, as always, didn’t even blink. He was locked in, his mind already in the meeting.
When we reached the private elevator, Lily pressed the button and smiled at David first, before glancing at me. “Mr. Blackwood is waiting for you in his office.”
I nodded and stepped inside.
*Aaron*
As soon as the elevator doors closed behind us, I felt the air shift. There was a certain pressure, like a storm was coming.
I touched the gift Jane had given me. I could hear it ticking with each passing second. But at that second, it sounded less like a watch and more like a countdown to impending doom.
Lily said nothing as she walked ahead, leading us into Xander’s domain. David and I exchanged a look. From the look on his face, I knew he was ready.
His office hadn’t changed. It was still oversized and nauseatingly expensive. It was on track for him. Xander had such a fragile ego that he just had to fill his life up with unnecessary luxury.
He was already standing behind his desk, arms folded, mouth tilted in that annoying smug smile that filled me with the urge to wipe off. His suit was tailored to perfection, an obvious ploy to appear in charge. Again, fragile ego.

He didn’t say a word, just raised an eyebrow, as if he expected me to thank him for giving me his time.
An older woman with gray hair and cunning eyes sat in one of the leather chairs near the fireplace. She crossed her legs elegantly, lips pulled into a hostile smile. She had an obnoxious air about her.
