Chapter 27: Knight in Shining Armor.
*Jane*
Around 10 minutes after I hang up the phone, a silver Aston
Martin cut through the driveway with alarming speed. It came
to a sudden stop near the curb, and then the door flew open.
Aaron didn’t even bother turning off the engine. He left the
door wide as he jogged toward me. His hair was messy from
sleep, shirt half–buttoned, coat thrown over his shoulders.
haphazardly.
My wolf howled in excitement at the way he looked at me, pure
concern in his eyes.
“What happened Jane? Did that asshole kick you out?” He
yelled.
I opened my mouth, but no words came out. My throat
tightened. I wanted to explain, to tell him everything but I
couldn’t speak.
He took a cautious step toward me. His eyes trailed down my
body finally noticing the blood on my sleeve and cheek. Aaron
stopped just inches away from me, so close that I could smell the

familiar scent of pine forest on him. He reached out slowly, as if
he were afraid that I might shatter. He tilted my chin up, forcing
my eyes to meet his.
“Jane…what did he do to you?”
His face was so close to mine, his chin taut and his eyes.
flickering, as if he would kill someone at my command. At that
crazy moment, I really wanted him to do as told. Rush up to
Xander and make him pay for everything he has done to me.
But I immediately controlled myself. I was not the villain here.
No matter how many tragic stories I told, the judge couldn’t
prevent me from going to prison.
So, I stepped into Aaron’s arms and everything drained out of
- me. My head fell against his chest and I held onto him. He
wrapped his arms around me. One hand moved to my back,
gently caressing the flesh, and the other slowly began stroking
my hair.
“I’ve got you,” he murmured. “You’re okay now.”
That was all it took to break the damn.
All the pent up anger, humiliation, hurt, resentment, fear
rushed out of me in the form of tears.
Aaron didn’t say anything. He just held me tighter.
I finally cried myself out after what felt like hours, and I
suddenly became very aware of the growing damp patch on his
chest. I blinked and awkwardly stepped back.
“Sorry your shirt…”
He looked down at it briefly, then gave me a shrug and a
crooked smile. “It’s just a shirt.” He picked up my bag from the
ground, then he slipped his hand into mine as if it was the most
casual thing in the world. “Come on. You need to get some
sleep.”
I didn’t ask any questions. I followed him to the car, waiting
briefly as he opened the car door. He helped me into the
passenger seat, closed the door gently behind me, before turning
around to get into the driver’s seat.
But he didn’t move.
He just sat there, hands resting on the steering wheel staring
straight ahead.
“Is something wrong?” I asked, not knowing what else to do.
Aaron didn’t respond. Instead, he shook his head and leaned over. His fingers lightly grazed my sides as he reached for my

seatbelt.
My wolf whined in pleasure, itching to get even closer to him.
However, my heart was beating a mile per minute. The car
suddenly felt too small. I could barely breathe.
His face was inches from mine, his rough palm brushing against
my hip as he clicked the buckle into place. It was a simple,
thoughtful gesture that somehow managed to arouse… feelings
inside of me.
“For safety reasons,” he explained as he leaned back into his
seat. “Can’t have you flying through the windshield if I crash
the car out of anger.”
I raised an eyebrow. I could feel my lips lifting into what would
be my first smile within the last few hours. “Is that how you
drive when you’re mad?”
I noticed the relief in his eyes when he saw me smiling. But he
quickly covered it up with his signature smirk. “Only when I’m
thinking about idiots that deserve to be run over.”
“Maybe,” I said, laughing. “Maybe I should drive then.”
Aaron scoffed. “I like you, Jane. Very much. But no one touches my car. Not even you. Just be a princess and if I crash, at least we’ll be in Hell together”

He said it like what I’d suggested was a criminal offense. But
then, we shared a look, and before I knew it we were giggling
like teenagers. My chest felt a lot lighter.
Aaron finally shifted the gear and we rolled out of the driveway
and into the main road. While he drove, I couldn’t help but steal
glances at him. He seemed just as relaxed as I was.
We sat in comfortable silence and it wasn’t even awkward at
all.
Out of the corner of his eyes, he noticed me staring. I tried to
look away, but it was too late. Aaron was already smirking
devilishly. “What are you thinking about over there?”
I shrugged. “You’re nice, a sincere and kind person. It’s rare to
see that.”
His smirk turned into a full grin. “Don’t be fooled by this face. I‘
m actually a pretty terrible person.”
I laughed softly and leaned back into the seat. “I know.”
He glanced at me for a moment, his smile softening, and then
quickly turned his attention back to the road.
We spent the rest of the ride in silence. I couldn’t maintain any
conversation because I was busy thinking about what he’d said

earlier.
“I like you, Jane. Very much.”
And well, I think I’ve fallen for him too.
