Chapter 18: Blurry Lines.
*Jane*
I swallowed hard. My brain screamed at me to shove him back,
to laugh it off, to remind him that this whatever this was a
terrible, terrible idea. That he needed to stop this ridiculous.
game. But my body had other plans.
A betraying rush of heat surged through me. I wanted to say
something, anything, but my brain couldn’t function long
enough to form any coherent words. All I could think about was
how close he was, how easy it would be to finally taste him.
Before I could think or even catch my breath, he had erased the
remaining space between us. We were close, so close that I could
see the flecks of silver in his icy blue eyes. so close his breath
brushed against my cheek, our noses pressed against each other.
His scent wrapped around me, making my knees weak and my
lips part.
“Make a choice, Jane.”
Those four words undid me. I had to say something, but my
brain had completely short–circuited. All I could pay attention to
was how close he was to me. There was a look of joy shining in

his eyes, along with some darker and more dangerous meaning.
“You’re doing it again,” he murmured, his voice thick with
desire.
“What?” Even my voice didn’t sound like mine.
And when his lips curved into a wicked grin, I knew he was
thinking the exact same thing. “That expression,” he whispered.
“Like you’re trying so hard not to want this.”
His lips were dangerously pressed against mine. “You’re
overthinking. Just… let it take its course.”
Let it take its course. Like I wasn’t already about to lose it. “Is this
just a game to you?”
“Isn’t this the same for you?” His voice… it sent a jolt of heat
through my belly. He lifted his hand, and my breath stilled as he
reached toward me. His fingers brushed a loose strand of hair
from my cheek, just the lightest touch, but it set fire to my skin.
His thumb grazed my jaw, just an inch away from my bottom. lip. I almost leaned in, almost gave myself away completely.
But his words brought me back. They reminded me why we were really here. This wasn’t real. None of this was supposed to
- be. We were here to deceive Xander. That was the plan, nothing

else.
But right now, with Aaron’s hand cradling my cheek and his
breath warming my lips, it didn’t feel like acting. Not even close.
We were inches away from doing something that felt too dangerous. And yet, moon goddess help me, I didn’t step back.
“Aaron…” I said his name again, this time more firmly. “Stop”
He didn’t move. His gaze locked on mine, hand still resting on my cheek. “Do you really want me to stop?”
I didn’t answer. Because I couldn’t lie. I couldn’t breathe. My lungs forgot how. My body, my wolf, knew only one thing; they wanted it. They wanted to betray me, to pull him closer, to close the unbearable gap still left between us.
But even as my body leaned into him, on the verge of doing something I swore I wouldn’t… my rational mind screamed.
Wake up. Remember why you’re here.
I wasn’t sure how long we stood there like that. Could’ve been seconds, minutes, or hours… It felt like an eternity.
I heard my wolf whining, wanting to be closer to him, but I needed to put some much needed space between us.
Chapter 18. Blurry Lines.
“No.” I blurted out. He raised an eyebrow which infuriated me
even further. “We can’t do that.”
Aaron didn’t chase me, not like I expected him to. He just
watched, one brow arched, his lips twitching. “What exactly
can’t we do, Jane?”
I hated how amused he sounded. I ignored the flush spreading
down my neck and turned away, grabbing my bag from the
table. “Let’s have lunch,” I muttered, making my way to the
door.
Aaron suddenly burst into laughter, making me even more
embarrassed. I didn’t want to turn to face him. I already knew
what I’d see in his eyes. He knew what he was doing to me,
knew how much he had affected me.
I wouldn’t give him the satisfaction of confirming his
suspicions. I reached the door, pulse still pounding in my ears.
when I heard him behind me.
“Jane wait,” Aaron called. “You know… since I organized
everything and all.”
I glanced over my shoulder, cheeks burning. “Then hurry up,” I
snapped, trying to sound sharp and irritated. And then I turned
around and walked out quickly.
Chapter 18 Blurry Lines,
The car ride out of the city was brutally quiet. Every time I
caught his gaze out of the corner of my eye, I felt my heart jump
and my wolf whimper. I told myself to focus on the blur of
trees, anything but the smell and sight of him.
Eventually, we pulled up to a secluded beach. It was calm, quiet,
the only sound was that of the sea. “Wow,” I gasped, staring at
the body of water in front of us. “This is…” I turned to look at
him, but Aaron wasn’t looking at the water.
He was watching me.
I cleared my throat awkwardly. “It’s beautiful.”
“This isn’t just any beach.” He pointed at something on the far right. I turned to see a sleek yacht just offshore. It looked like it belonged in a magazine, owned by someone reckless, rich and
overly confident.
My lips parted. “Oh my god, are we getting on the yacht?”
He nodded,
“You’re renting a yacht for lunch?”
His smirk deepened. “Renting? Jane, the yacht’s mine.”
