Chapter 147
*Aaron*
I couldn’t keep the tears away, and I wasn’t ashamed of it. Fen howled in excitement. He’d longed for this day from the very moment we set our eyes on Jane.
And now, standing here in my best charcoal gray suit, I was about to make her my wife.
She walked down the aisle, looking like a vision in a beautiful gown that looked like it had employed the services of the cloud and the moonlight.
As she walked toward me, amber eyes fixed on mine, I was transported back to that first night almost a year ago. I’d scrambled down the fire escape of my bar, trying to get away from a woman, whose face and name I couldn’t even remember.
But the moment I ran into the bar, I saw her, perched on a barstool like some sort of goddess, dark curly hair cascading over her shoulders as she nursed a glass of whiskey.
My wolf had reacted even then. She awakened something in me that I didn’t even know was there.
“Aaron,” Kol whispered, bringing me back to the present. My best man stood beside me in his black suit. “You look so in looooove!”
“Shut it,” I said through gritted teeth.

“Oh, come on. It’s nothing to be ashamed of. You’re…”
“Kol.” Aiden surged forward, tapping my best man on the shoulder. “Stop it.”
But Kol, being Kol, couldn’t resist one final jab. He made an exaggerated kissing sound, complete with lip–smacking noises that thankfully, couldn’t have reached Jane’s ears.
I pressed a finger against my temple. I wasn’t going to take the blame for Kol’s actions. It was Aiden’s fault. If only he’d won the throwing game, then he would have been my best man, and not Kol. Of course Aiden was still upset about it… I could hear him and Kol bickering by the side.
But all that didn’t matter to me as Jane soon reached the altar.
The maid of honor, Maria, carefully arranged Jane’s train before stepping forward. Then, with a gentle smile, Maria lifted Jane’s hand and placed it in mine.
The moment our fingertips touched, an electric current shot through my entire being. Fen went completely still; everything was right with the world again.
This… this is what I’ve been waiting for my entire life. I could hear her heartbeat as I turned her around, leading her to where the pastor waited.
Slowly, I lifted her veil, and God… I had to hold myself back. I wanted to kiss her, I wanted to cry, I wanted to drop to my knees and worship her beauty. I didn’t know what to do first.
Jane decided for me. “Hi,” she whispered.

My throat tightened with emotion, and when I tried to respond, my voice came out equally breathless. “Hi.”
Pastor Matthew cleared his throat and began his opening remarks. Something about the sacred bonds of marriage… or the meaning? I barely listened to him. His voice seemed to fade into background noise.
Jane and I stared at each other. And in her eyes, I saw moments we spent together play out like a movie. All the laughter, the tears, the arguments, our mind–blowing reconciliations, and let’s not forget, our infamous late–night conversations.
“Aaron?” Pastor Matthew said and I realized it was time for the vows.
I reached into my jacket pocket, and reached for the folded piece of paper. But as I looked into Jane’s eyes, I left the paper where it was.
“Jane. Meeting you turned my entire world upside down. You came into my life like a hurricane and brought absolutely beautiful destruction with you. You challenged everything I thought I knew about myself. You made me want to be better. You were everything I needed, everything I wanted, and the only person I want to have by my side.”
