Chapter 145
The rest were confused. So, when Felix’s phone buzzed, he glanced down at it without a second thought. And then he smiled.
“Your Honor, there appears to have been a significant development in this case.” He pushed his phone across the table toward Judge Patricia. “A video has just surfaced online. It shows Ms. Dane with John, one of my client’s employees. They appear to be… intimately involved.”
Xander’s eyes widened as Felix went into detail.
“That’s not the only thing. A recording has surfaced, where Ms. Dane discussed with my client’s ex–wife, Jane, how she used the pregnancy as leverage, referring to it as ‘hustling‘ her way to the top. The child never belonged to my client, John admits full responsibility in the recording. She appears to have orchestrated this entire situation as part of a scheme to advance her position within the company.”
Rob’s face had gone completely white. The hashtag #Hustling was already trending on social media. He knew they’d already lost the case.
Xander couldn’t believe his ears. He’d believed he was doomed, but things had taken a surprising turn. He knew without a single doubt that Jane had been the one to leak the evidence. It was surprising since she still harbored deep resentment toward him.
Either way, he was grateful.
Judge Patricia finally looked up from Felix’s phone. “Given the substantial new evidence that has come to light, and considering the plaintiff’s unexcused absence from these proceedings, this court finds

that the allegations against Mr. Blackwood lack credibility and merit.” She hit the gavel, then rose to her feet and walked out.
Xander reached for his phone immediately. He knew it was probably a bit too simple, and Jane might not want to hear from him, but he had to say something. So, he typed a quick “Thank you” and sent it to his ex- wife. Hopefully, Jane would be able to understand all the emotions he couldn’t quite put into words.
Rob didn’t look at them as they all exited the conference room. As soon as they stepped out, Amelia rushed forward.
“Well? What happened there? I saw Mia run out.”
Xander couldn’t suppress the smile that took over his face. He didn’t answer her directly. “You know what you said about taking a vacation? You were right. I’m going away.”
His smile widened. He felt his wolf’s spirits lift. Things were slowly looking up for the wounded Alpha.
*Jane*
My heart was racing. I reached for my phone to check the time, but Maria quickly snatched it out of my hands.
“No.”
“Just a peak,” I begged. “I just need to see how late we are.
“Forty minutes and counting,” she said as she adjusted the veil in my hair. “Hold still, Jane. You’re vibrating terribly.”
I tried to sit still, but I couldn’t stop myself from moving. I could barely see anything from the backseat, and with Maria as my maid of honor

(who ruled with an iron fist), I wasn’t allowed to move too much, lest I wrinkle my beautiful wedding dress.
Still, I desperately wanted a mirror. We’d left the hotel room in such a rush that I wasn’t sure if my hair still remained in the bun Maria had put it in. or my makeup, was it even still spotless?
“I can literally hear your mind working. Relax. Everything is going to be okay.” She slipped the veil into my hair finally and fluffed it so it laid perfectly on my shoulders. “Beautiful.”
“That’s not the worst of it. We’re still over an hour late. Oh God, I hope Aaron still wants to marry me.”
“Well, he better. This is all his fault. He just had to have his little concert last night. Who performs an impromptu serenade at their own rehearsal dinner?”
I couldn’t help but smile at the memory. Aaron had matched to the front of the ballroom, and sang directly to me while his massive extended family (including his distant cousins) cheered and whistled.
“It was sweet,” I said in Aaron’s defense.
“Well, it wasn’t so sweet when he kept you out till two in the morning when you had to be wedding–night ready by eight.”
She was right. The morning had been a complete disaster. My makeup bag had vanished into thin air, and after tearing through the hotel room like a possessed woman, I found it in the bathroom sink. Then my hairstylist had called, offered apologies just to inform me she’d be forty- five minutes late. As if things couldn’t get any worse, I almost forgot my bouquet on the way out.
