Chapter 144
“I’m only here for moral support. Or perhaps damage control would be more accurate. Someone needs to ensure this doesn’t spiral completely out of hand.”
As they neared the courthouse, Xander saw a flash. He flinched,
immediately lifting up his arm to shield his eyes. But the reporters soon emerged from their parked cars.
They surged forward like agitated bees, shoving recording devices and their cameras in his face.
“Alpha Blackwood, look here.”
“Xander, if we could just get a statement…”
“What do you think about the accusations? Are you going to plead guilty?”
“A good number of feminists have spoken ill of you. Do you have a response?”
Xander managed to push through the crowd and forced his way in. and when he looked back, his mother was following slowly. She didn’t even break a sweat, head held high as she moved through the sea of
reporters.
Once inside, Amelia stopped at the waiting area and settled into one of the worn leather chairs. “I’ll wait here. Felix is waiting for you in the conference room. Try not to make this any worse than it already is.”

He hadn’t really expected his mother to stick by him. She was doing this to save her own skin after all. What became of him didn’t matter to
her.
Xander nodded curtly and made his way to the conference room. He walked in to find Felix waiting, his briefcase open and paper spread across the table.
“Hey…” Xander mumbled lightly.
Felix looked up and almost sucked in a breath at the Alpha’s disheveled state. He looked… not himself. The light in his eyes were gone, and from the state of his suit, it was obvious the allegations were getting to him. Xander had even lost his usual commanding Alpha aura. But Felix said nothing.
Instead, he gestured at the seat beside me. “I’ve gone through
everything. And I think we should reconsider. We still have time to do so. Settling with Mia would be the appropriate course of action. It would minimize the damage to your reputation, and…”
“Absolutely not,” Xander declared. “I won’t give her a single cent. This whole thing is a setup, Felix.”
Felix sighed. “Xander, that’s not…”
The conference room door burst open, interrupting Felix. Mia entered first, eyes landing on Xander immediately. She smirked at him as she sauntered into the room. Her lawyer, Rob, an intimidating man, followed, holding his briefcase tightly.
Mia didn’t take her eyes off Xander as she settled into the seat opposite him and his lawyer. She knew very well that she had the advantage. She was going to bury him and take every single penny he had.

“Good morning,” Rob began, breaking the silence. “I trust we can resolve this matter efficiently.”
Felix straightened his papers. “That depends entirely on your client’s willingness to be reasonable.”
Xander looked up as the door opened once more and a tall, elegant woman, with dark hair that she wore in a pixie cut, walked in. She adjusted her robe as she sat down at the head of the table. “Good morning, I’m Judge Patricia, and I’ll be facilitating today’s conference in the matter of Mia Dane versus Xander Blackwood. I trust both parties understand that this is an opportunity to reach a resolution without the need for prolonged litigation.”
Felix cleared his throat. “Your Honor, my client maintains his complete innocence in this matter. Ms. Dane’s allegations are not just completely false, but it’s an attempt to extract money from my client.”
Rob spoke next. “Your Honor, my client has suffered significant emotional distress and professional damage as a result of Mr. Blackwood’s actions. The pattern of behavior she experienced constitutes clear sexual harassment, coercion into an unwanted relationship, and ultimately wrongful termination when she attempted to resist his advances.”
They went on and on, delivering arguments as to whether their client deserved to leave the room with what they wanted. It didn’t seem like there was an end in sight, until…
Rob’s phone suddenly vibrated. All eyes turned to him and he quickly reached for the device. “I apologize, Your Honor. I thought I…”
Mia’s phone buzzed next. And when she looked down, her earlier confidence vanished completely. Her face went pale, as she stared at

the screen.
“Miss Dane?” Rob feared his client might collapse.
Without a word, Mia stood abruptly. Then, with a strangled sound, she fled from the conference room, leaving the door hanging open behind her.
