Chapter 141
Cathe gasped so loudly that Viki’s eyes fluttered open for a moment before closing again. “A gender reveal at your wedding? Jane, that’s absolutely perfect! Oh, it’s going to be the most magical day!”
TWEE
A lean man dressed in a pink patterned suit approached us. “Good afternoon ladies. I’m Josh. I couldn’t help but notice your excitement. Are we ready to start trying on some gowns?”
Cathe clapped her hands. “Yes!”
“Oh, yes!” Cathe answered before I could even open my mouth, her finger shooting toward a massive creation that dominated an entire corner of the boutique. “Jane, you simply must try that one.
I followed her gaze to what could only be described as a monstrosity of tulle and satin. The ball gown was so large it could fit both myself and Aaron. I preferred a dress that would cling to my figure, not whatever that was. “Cathe, I think that might be a bit… much.”
“Nonsense. You’re going to be a princess.” Her eyes suddenly grew wider. “And speaking of princesses, we need to talk about bridesmaids. I’m thinking ten… no, twelve. Diana, obviously, and Bonnie, and my cousins Stephanie, Sarah, and…
Oh God. This was going to be a nightmare. Aaron warned me about his mother. Well, he failed to warn me about Cathe.
“…and little Viki here will be the most adorable flower girl. Won’t you, sweetheart?” Cathe cooed at the sleeping baby, then looked up at me with eyes bright with excitement. “Oh, and we’ll need to coordinate

with the caterer about the cake, and the flowers, and…”
My eyes began to twitch. I brought this upon myself. I should have taken Aaron up on his offer of a simple Las Vegas wedding. The man had been spitting pure wisdom. But I’d been too stupid to see it.
“Perhaps we should start with trying on a few dresses?” Josh intervened. “We can discuss the details once we find the perfect gown.”
I nodded gratefully, allowing myself to be led toward the fitting room while Cathe continued her enthusiastic planning.
The first dress was a mermaid style that clung to every curve. It was too tight around my growing belly, making me feel like a stuffed sausage. The second was all ruffles and bows… I hated it, and Cathe shared my sentiment.
“What about this one?” Josh suggested, holding up a dress that made my breath stop.
It was so elegant and perfect. It had a fitted silhouette that would accommodate my baby bump, with delicate beading and a modest, but graceful training.
The moment I tried on the dress, I knew it was the one. It fit me perfectly.
“It’s… okay,” Cathe said, without any of the enthusiasm she’d shown for the ball gown monstrosity.
Josh worked quickly, taking my measurements for all the alterations. And just like that, I’d picked the wedding dress of my dreams.
After scheduling a fitting appointment with Josh, Cathe and I gathered our things and walked out of the bridal store.

“I’ll get started on the bridesmaids dresses tomorrow,” Cathe said as she stopped in front of her car.
I smiled and waved as she drove off. I pulled out my phone to see if I had any messages from Aaron, but frowned when I noticed one strange notification waiting for me.
It was a missed call from Xander.
I shook my head and climbed into my car, choosing to ignore him. But as soon as I got home, before I could even say hello to George who was in front of the television, my phone buzzed again with a text message.
Xander Blackwood: Need to talk to you about my trial. It’s important. Please call me back.
Without a second thought, I dumped the device in my purse and flashed a smile at George. “Hi George,” I said as I settled into the couch next to his wheelchair.
He raised an eyebrow and pointed at my bag. “Are you going to answer that?”
Damn it. “No, I’ll just…” the buzzing started again. Frustrated, I reached into my purse and pulled out my phone.
“What do you want?”
“Jane? Thank you for answering. I…”
“Get to the point.”
“It’s about the lawsuit with Mia. She’s claiming I forced her into a relationship. She’s denying she was ever pregnant, denying that she even lied I was the father. I’ve died a thousand deaths since I learned

the truth. I need your help, Jane.”
“What exactly are you asking me to do?“
