Chapter 129
“I’m sorry. I’m sorry you’re going through this. I’m sorry about the cancer, and I hope the chemo helps, but-”
“I don’t have cancer!” Xander blurted out. “I’m not sick. It was all a lie.”
Jane’s expression shifted from sympathy to revulsion. But he was past the point of redemption. She would never take him back.
Without another word, he turned and walked out of her office, leaving behind a shocked Jane. He moved like a zombie, making his way into the elevator, to the ground floor, and out of Ominent.
His driver was waiting by the car when he stepped outside. Xander didn’t spare the large man a glance. He pulled the door open and jumped into the backseat.
“Blackwood Group. Now,” he ordered darkly. “And step on it.”
Noting the no–nonsense tone in his Alpha’s voice, the driver climbed into the car and zoomed off.
Throughout the ride, Xander tried to keep his mind on other things. His head was a dangerous place. But try as he might, all he could think about was the fact that he had nothing.
Jane wanted nothing to do with him, Mia lied to him, he had no baby, and his mother… He didn’t even have the words.
Somehow, he’d started life as a fearless Alpha, with a wife he loved and a mistress who was obsessed with him. And now, he had nothing.

The car pulled to a stop in front of his office building. Xander rushed out, pushing through the revolving doors with such force that people coming out stepped aside.
“Good afternoon, Alpha…” the receptionist began, but Xander strode past her without acknowledgement. He headed straight for the elevator, stabbing the buttons repeatedly until the doors finally opened up.
When he reached the top floor, he stepped out, rage boiling up inside him. He found Mia in her office, sitting behind her desk with a cup of tea, her hand resting protectively over her round belly.
She looked up as he entered, and her face immediately went white at the sight of his bald head and wild expression.
“Xander? What happened to your-”
He slammed his fist against the desk. “The baby. Tell me the truth about the baby.”
Mia’s cup rattled against the saucer as she set it down.
“I don’t know what you mean.
But Xander wasn’t having it. He was slowly beginning to realize that she had been the game player after all. He’d just been a convenient pawn in her plans.
“Don’t lie to me! Jane told me everything. The baby isn’t mine, is it? IS IT?” he yelled.
Mia pressed herself back in her chair. “Xander, please, you’re scaring me.”
“I’m scaring you? You’ve been lying to me for months. Tell me the truth

right now or else…”
“I never meant for it to go this far,” Mia suddenly burst out, tears beginning to stream down her cheeks.
That was all the confirmation he needed.
“You lying bitch!” In one swift motion, Xander’s hands shot out and grabbed her shoulder, pulling her up from her chair and slamming her back against the wall.
“Xander, stop. The baby…”
“I could give a damn about the baby,” he snarled.
“Xander, let her go. Now.”
Xander turned to see his mother standing in the doorway. He stood there for a moment, chest heaving, but then he finally let her go.
“You’re fired,” he said, turning to Mia again. “Effective immediately. Clear out this place and get out.”
“What? You can’t…” Mia tried to argue, but he wouldn’t listen to her. Not anymore.
“I can and I am. You’re also stripped of your Beta position. All privileges have been revoked. You’re nothing to the Blackwood pack.”
Mia’s expression darkened. “You’ll pay for this,” she muttered as she reached around him to grab her purse and phone. “I promise you, Xander. I’ll make you pay.”
Xander didn’t spare her a glance as she rushed out of the office. Instead, he fixed his gaze on his mother.

“You shouldn’t have lost control. You’re creating a scene, and that could damage this company’s reputation,” his mother noted. “Do you have any idea if word gets out that you physically assaulted a pregnant employee?”
Xander wasn’t shocked. His mother had to be the most emotionless woman on the planet. And even though he knew the answer, he still asked, “Do you care about my feelings at all?”
Amelia’s face tightened. The question was ludicrous. He wasn’t a child she needed to coddle. “If you don’t get off the company property right this minute, I’ll make sure this is your last time here.”
Xander’s shoulders slumped in defeat. He truly had nothing. An Alpha, reduced to nothing. He shook his head and made his way to the door.
But before he stepped through, he stopped just inches away from his mother’s ear and whispered, “You don’t love me. You never did.”
Then he turned and walked out.
