Chapter 127
“How are you feeling about being here today, Xander?” he began.
“I’m fine.” Xander glared at him, his gaze growing venomous when the therapist scribbled something on his notepad. “I don’t really know why I’m here, to be honest. This whole thing was my mother’s idea.”
“Sometimes the people who care about us can see things we might not notice ourselves. What do you think your mother was concerned about?”
“She thinks I’m falling apart or something. But I’m handling everything just fine on my own.” Xander shrugged.
“What exactly are you handling right now?” The doctor leaned back on his chair, studying Xander with a stoic expression.
Xander didn’t like that question. He didn’t like it one bit. For a second, he considered walking out. But hell, he was already here. He might as well let it all out.
“My wife left me.”
There, he said it.
Dr. Steven nodded lightly. “That must have been incredibly difficult. How long ago did this happen?”
“Three months.” Xander folded his hands into fists. “Ever since she left,

even remember to eat.”
The floodgates had opened now. Xander couldn’t stop talking.
“I feel like I’m drowning. I don’t know how to be me without her. The only thing that’s keeping me from falling apart is the pup my Beta Mia is carrying. That’s the only motivation I have to move on,” he admitted.
“That’s a significant development. Is this relationship with Mia new?”
He shook his head. “No. I’ve been seeing Mia for close to a year now. You see, Jane and I… We had an open marriage. We both agreed to it. So, when I met Mia, it wasn’t cheating or anything like that.”
Xander watched as Dr. Steven digested the information. He had to give it to the bald man; his face didn’t reveal any of his thoughts.
“Can you tell me more about this agreement?”
Xander nodded. “Well, I brought Mia home to live with us because I was trying to be transparent. I didn’t want to hide anything from Jane. I love her. And we had difficulties conceiving, so knowing Jane always wanted children, I hoped she would be excited at the prospect of Mia moving in with us.”
“How did Jane react to this?” Dr. Steven asked.
“She was furious. Completely furious. I don’t understand why, when all I did was try to give her everything she ever wanted.’
Dr. Steven set his pen down. He could now see where the problem stemmed from. “Xander, I’m wondering if you’ve ever considered how Jane might have felt about this situation. The idea of sharing her husband with another woman, even in an open marriage, might have

been…”
“I was trying to save my marriage!” Xander was furious. How dare this man question an Alpha?
“Xander, I think we need to-‘
“No!” He shot up from his chair, face red with rage.
“Please, sit down. Let’s talk about this…”
“I’m done talking. I don’t need therapy. I need my wife back.”
Xander grabbed the door open and slammed it shut, leaving the therapist alone in shock.
Twenty minutes later, Xander pushed through the door of Rain’s Barbershop. Rain looked up and smiled when he noticed his long–time
customer.
“Alpha Xander. What can I do for you today?”
Xander dropped into the barber chair in front of Rain.
“I need you to shave it all off. Right down to the skin,” he demanded.
Rain looked at Xander’s hunter’s eyes through the mirror.
“Why? You have great hair,” he tried to argue politely.
“Just do it. No one hates a dying man.”
Rain frowned. “What do you mean by that?”

“I mean, when Jane sees me like this, she’ll realize how much I’m suffering. She’ll see that I’m wasting away without her, that I need her. She’ll feel sorry for me. She’ll want to take care of me again,” Xander explained.
Rain set the clippers down entirely, turning the chair so Xander faced him directly. This was his Alpha, and he respected him, but the man was sounding crazy.
“Alpha, you can’t manipulate someone into caring about you.”
But instead of Xander to see reason, he scowled at Rain. “Just cut the hair. You don’t know anything.”
“I know she’s going to hate you when she finds out the truth,” he pointed out.
