I frowned. “The airport doesn’t serve seafood.”
“Doesn’t it?” He couldn’t even hide the amusement in his voice.
No matter how hard I tried to get him to spill his guts, Aaron told me nothing. We arrived at the airport in no time, and once again, he fussed around me before helping me out of the car.
He led me to the private terminal, which was decorated to fit the season, with a lavish Christmas tree at the center of the luxurious
space.
But as I looked around, I noticed two men dressed in all black, standing beside the check–in counter, holding two suitcases each.
I gasped. “Aaron…”
He just smiled and led me through the boarding process. Next thing I knew, we were climbing the steps up to an extravagant private jet. The interior was just as beautiful as the exterior, with a spacious cabin, cream leather seats, and a lounge at the far end.
I chose the seat by the window, and Aaron settled in across from me, our knees brushing.
“Good morning, Mr. Lorenz,” the pilot greeted as he approached us. “We’re looking at about three hours. The weather is perfect, so everything should go smoothly.”
“Thank you, Mark,” Aaron replied.

The pilot nodded and disappeared into the cockpit.
“You’re not going to tell me where we’re going?” I tried.
Aaron just smiled. “I told you. We’re going for seafood.”
“Aaron…”
“Shhh…” He rubbed my thigh in a soothing rhythm. “Go to sleep.”
That was all it took. I slept through take–off and most of the flight. And it was only when Aaron said, “We’re descending, Jane. You might want to see this,” that I finally peeled my eyes open.
I was disoriented for a moment, but when I focused my eyes, my breath caught in my throat.
There was water everywhere, more than I’d ever seen in my life. The turquoise ocean was so clear that I could see the white sand beneath, and scattered across the surface were small island palm trees.
“Wow,” I whispered, pressing my face to the glass. “What is this place?”
“Nassau. The Bahamas.”
I was still staring when the plane landed. As we climbed down, everything became clearer. White buildings with red tile roofs that curved around a beautiful beach.
“Mr. Lorenz! Welcome to Nassau!” a warm voice with a thick accent
exclaimed.
A round man in his fifties, with cropped black hair, approached us. He wore a crisp white shirt and khaki shorts. There was a huge van right

behind him, and two younger men dressed in identical outfits. “I’m Dan, and I’ll be your tour guide for the entirety of your trip.”
Aaron nodded, gripped my hand tightly, and followed Dan into the van. We drove through the colorful streets of Nassau with the windows rolled down, and Dan took every opportunity to point out landmarks.
“That’s the Queen’s Staircase.”
I looked out to see a long limestone stairway carved into a hillside.
“It has sixty–five steps,” Dan continued. “Built with only hand tools, it took them sixteen years to complete.”
I leaned forward to study the structure, which lasted for only a moment before we drove past.
“And here we are,” Dan announced as we reached a corner and drove through large iron gates. “Paradise Cove Resort.”
The resort name was exactly what its name promised, a slice of tropical heaven. The design was out of this world, a structure that seemed unending, with glass windows and bright lights.
And then we entered the beach house.
Floor–to–ceiling windows that gave a perfect view of the ocean, white furniture with touches of coral and turquoise that complemented the beach. It was large and airy, and so close to the beach that I could hear the waves moving.
“Don’t get comfortable. There’s somewhere I have to take you first,” Aaron informed me.
I looked up at Aaron. “Am I finally going to get that seafood?”

He grinned. “Yes.”
“I’ll give you a moment to freshen up, and then we’ll head out,” Dan said before disappearing. The younger men deposited our luggage into the room and then followed after him.
Aaron guided me toward the bedroom. I wasn’t surprised by how beautiful it was. It had a similar tropical vibe, with a luxurious king- sized bed draped in white linens, French doors that opened to a private balcony, and a bathroom that looked like something from a spa.
But there was something on the bed that made me stop in my tracks.
