Chapter 121
“Oh, no.” I laughed nervously. “I just have a lot of things to do tonight. Got to keep my wits about me,” I said the last part in a terrible English
accent.
Everyone laughed at the poor attempt at humor, but Aaron wasn’t smiling. I could feel his gaze boring into the side of my head, but I didn’t turn to look at him.
He’s worried, Lucky noted. He thinks something is wrong.
I’ll tell him tonight, everything will be fine.
Six virgin mojitos, two visits to the restroom, and multiple riveting conversations later, Aaron announced, “I think it’s time for us to leave.”
Kol’s eyes widened, taking on a puppy–like expression. “No, you guys just got here.”
“They’ve been here for over two hours.” Aiden threw Kol a disapproving look. “Goodnight, Aaron. Drive safe.”
We said our goodbyes, and before I knew it, Aaron was driving us home.
He rested his hand on my thigh, tracing patterns along my skin, but something felt different. Every so often, his fingers would stop moving, like he was deep in thought. Coupled with the fact that since we left the club, Aaron hadn’t said a word to me.
As if he could read my mind, he suddenly opened his mouth. “You

know, I think I’m going to have to keep you locked up at my house from now on.”
I turned to look at him. He was smiling, but his eyes were awfully
serious.
Aaron’s wolf seems anxious to me. Something’s going on, Lucky informed me.
But I decided to follow through with the joke. “That’s a harsh prison sentence. What’s my crime?”
He laughed, but said nothing. I could feel him stealing glances at me, could hear the way his breathing changed. Something was definitely
wrong.
“Jane, are you hiding something from me?” Aaron finally broke the silence.
My heart jumped. And before I could think, I blurted, “I met Yve at the courthouse today.”
Aaron abruptly pulled the car to a stop by the side of the road. Then he turned fully to face me. “What did you just say?”
“I bumped into her on my way out. She wanted to talk. She told me I should break up with you.”
“And what else did she say?”

I met his gaze. “She said you went to her house because of her texts. Not just to ask questions like you told me.”
Aaron’s eyes widened for a brief second, but then he sighed. “Yes, she did text me. Multiple times. She said Xander had contacted her and

that he was spreading lies about you, things that could hurt your case. She claimed it was very important and would only tell me in person.”
I felt hot rage flood through. So it was true. “Let me get this straight. You went to her house, then you lied to me about why you were there.”
“I didn’t lie,” he retorted.
“Yes. You did.”
“Look…it was all a lie. Yve had no information from Xander. In fact, I doubt they were ever in contact. She just wanted to lure me there.”
“That should have been obvious to you from the start. And this is exactly what I’m talking about. You always do this. You decide what I can and can’t handle before even telling me. I never get the whole story from you,” I complained.
Aaron sighed again. “Because you were facing a trial. I didn’t want to drag you into Yve’s bullshit.”
“Well, that’s not your decision to make.”
“Jane, come on. I would never want to keep things from you.”
“But you did. God, Aaron. You treat me like I can’t take care of myself. I won’t break if you tell me the truth, you know?”
Aaron didn’t speak for a long moment. He just stared at me with puppy- dog eyes. I could feel my anger slowly slipping away, but I held onto it with a vice grip.
“I love you,” he said quietly. “Everything I did, I did because I love you. And you’re right. I’m sorry, Jane. I’m so fucking sorry.”

I shook my head. “No. You’re just apologizing because you got caught.”
Lucky howled inside me. Just forgive him, I can feel his wolf whimpering. He means it.
Aaron took my hands in his before I could respond to her. “I mean it, Jane. I’m sorry.”
