That minor hiccup didn’t affect Noelle. Upon returning to Matthew Manor, he found two additional people in the living room, conversing with Matthew.
Matthew called over Noelle and said, “These two are my assistants, Alex and Ben.”
Noelle was rendered speechless momentarily. Is that it? Are those their names?
“Hi, Ms. Yersley.”
The two individuals couldn’t be faulted for their attitudes. After all, the woman before them was their future matriarch.
“Hello,” Noelle responded with a nod.
Ben Harris, who was in charge of foreign affairs, was a smooth operator. He began to say with a smile, “We have a well–known names to the outside world, but Mr. Matthew is more accustomed to addressing us this way.”
Noelle fell silent. These two are indeed figures who can hold their own. However, using that name in public is too simple. They should be called Alexander and Benjamin. However, Alex and Ben sound fine. These names sure are time–savers.
Matthew turned his gaze toward Noelle, saying, “If I’m ever too busy in the future, I’ll arrange for them to drop you off and pick you up from campus.”
Alex Harris and Ben exchanged a glance, somewhat speechless. Are we urgently summoned back just to escort Ms. Yersley to campus?
Chris Harris was in charge of Matthew’s overseas businesses, and thus, he was rarely in the country. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have been able to escape.
Noelle was left speechless. It’s not like I’m attending kindergarten!
“There’s no need for that, right?” she asked.
“With them as your drivers, Elle, I don’t have to worry.”
I’m just going to campus, not off to war, and it’s so close by. What’s there to worry about? Moreover, isn’t it a bit of an overkill to have these two acting as drivers? Although Noelle was speechless, she still handed over the bag. This caused Matthew to raise an eyebrow.
“For me?”
Noelle nodded slightly. “It’s just something I picked up casually. I’m heading up first.”
Matthew watched the two individuals craning their necks in anticipation. He then casually opened the box to reveal the pair of cufflinks, which were clearly not cheap.
Alex clicked his tongue, “Ms. Yersley is quite the wealthy lady. You’ve hit the jackpot.”
Matthew closed the box, observing the two individuals before him. “Aren’t you leaving yet?”
The two understood the situation and left. They each had their own house there and would usually stay whenever they were in Jamore.
After they left, Matthew reopened the box and gently picked up the pair of cufflinks. My first gift from Elle!
The following day, Matthew donned formal attire, adorning the cufflinks gifted by Noelle, as he waited beside the car for her.
Noelle looked at Matthew in surprise, noticing his formal attire.
“If you’re busy, you don’t need to send me,” she said.
Matthew’s eyebrows remained still. “I’m not busy. Let’s get you to the university first.”
Alex, who was in charge of driving, was quietly grumbling in the car, “Well, you just want to show off your cufflinks, right?” Watching Noelle enter Jamore University, Alex asked, “Mr. Matthew, are we heading back?”

Matthew had arranged to have lunch with a few others, but it was still early.
“To the office.”

Alex was speechless. He then turned and headed to Harris Group. There, Matthew had a cordial conversation with several of the company’s executive CEOs.
Until noon, when Matthew left, the group still wore expressions of total bewilderment. They had no idea why their boss had gone there.
After leaving the company, Matthew went to the clubhouse where they had agreed to meet.
That was Ryleigh’s place. Recently, there had been some trouble, and Ryleigh couldn’t extricate himself. Hence, they simply decided to meet here.
By the time Matthew arrived, they were all already there. Seeing his attire, Dominic let out a whistle, teasing, “Are you a groomsman?”
After all, he couldn’t become a groom in a heartbeat. His flamboyantly dressed appearance was quite unusual.
Joseph gave Matthew a quick once–over, swiftly pinpointing the highlight of the attire. “Did Ms. Yersley give you those
cufflinks?”
Matthew gave Joseph a pat. “You have sharp eyes.”
On the side, Zeke, who was playing pool with Ryleigh, paused their actions and said, “What a closet romantic.”
Zeke set down the cue stick, saying, “Matthew, right now you remind me of a peacock during its courtship display.”
Ryleigh added, “You’re flaunting wherever you go.”
Upon hearing those words, Dominic burst out laughing heartily.
Although they were teasing him, there was a sense of joy in their banter. After all, it had been a long time since they had seen Matthew acting so human. In the past, he always seemed to be wearing a mask, just going through the motions.
Ever since Noelle appeared, there had been a noticeable change in Matthew. He became more genuine, not just toward Noelle but to everyone else as well.
In high spirits, Matthew chose not to take issue with them. After finishing their meal, they all engaged in sporadic casual conversation. Matthew, with his phone always in hand, continued to send messages to Noelle.
Matthew’s message read: Did you have lunch? What did you eat? Let me know when you’re ready to leave. I’ll fetch you.
Meanwhile, Noelle was also somewhat helpless. She had never been to a university, so she wondered if everyone else was like
her.
“Matthew, doesn’t Ms. Yersley find your clinginess annoying?”
Seeing his antics, even the usually gentle and refined Joseph couldn’t help but make some sharp–tongued remarks.
“You, a single person, are teaching me how to act in a relationship?”
Compared to the venomous tongue–lashing, Matthew was in no way inferior. Additionally, three innocent bachelors felt simultaneously wounded.
“Does Ms. Yersley know about you two dating?”
Naturally, if one’s heart was pierced, they would want to retaliate in kind.
Matthew scoffed coldly. “It’s still better than you guys not having any targets at all.”
When masters of words crossed swords, every word was lethal.
Dominic was thoroughly enjoying the spectacle, chiming in, “Speaking of Little Noelle, she started university today, right? With all those handsome young men around… Well… Matthew, aren’t you worried?”

Matthew slowly raised an eyebrow. “Am I really no better than those greenhorns?”
“Are you better? Those guys are young.”
Ryleigh hit the nail on the head.
Seeing Matthew’s face grow cold, Ryleigh was pleased.
“What could Ms. Yersley possibly see in you? Is it your wealth and power? Or perhaps your good looks?”

Joseph cast a meaningful glance at his cufflinks, suggesting that if Noelle could casually afford to gift such items, she certainly didn’t appear to be short of money.
When Joseph made that remark, it gave the others food for thought. It seems that Ms. Yersley isn’t as simple as she appears! Maybe she’s indifferent toward us because she isn’t an ordinary woman!
“Elle is fond of my face.”
Not only did Matthew feel no shame in being seen as a person who used his looks to serve others, but he was actually quite pleased that he could attract Noelle’s attention.
Although Noelle didn’t express it, he could feel it.
“Does Ms. Yersley like your face or does she just like attractive faces?”
Zeke seemed rather thoughtful, considering there were plenty of attractive faces in the university.
With a sense of schadenfreude, Dominic reveled in the predicament that Matthew found himself in. It seemed that Matthew had incurred the wrath of many, probably due to his jabs at the single folks. No doubt, he was then facing a backlash.
The bickering among the group was interrupted by the ringing of Matthew’s phone, prompting him to immediately stand
- up.
“I’ve got to go.”
He walked outside while answering the phone, his voice instantly softening.
“Elle, are you done with your classes?”
The people in the room found what they heard painfully cringeworthy. Once Matthew left, Dominic mimicked Matthew’s peculiar way of speaking in a mocking tone.
“Elle, are you done with your classes? Haha! Doesn’t it sound like he’s picking up his daughter from school?”
The remaining three cast meaningful glances at Dominic, making him feel slightly uncomfortable.
“Why are you looking at me like that? I was just joking. You don’t seriously think he’s treating her as his daughter, do you?”
Joseph asked, “Both of Ms. Yersley’s parents have passed away, right?”
Dominic wore a look of utter bewilderment upon hearing that. “So?”
“With Matthew’s behavior, it seems Ms. Yersley might have to treat him like a father,” Zeke said.
After giving it some thought, Dominic realized that their usual interactions did indeed reflect that. It seemed as if Matthew was raising Noelle as if she were his daughter. Is this some kind of new trick he’s playing? Huh! I have to drop that thought. This twisted world is beyond my comprehension.
