Chapter 14 They Took Him
I looked at him in fear. I didn’t know what he was going to ask. “Okay.” I nodded.
“Are you one of my own now?” He asked.
I was confused for a second, but then I nodded. “Yeah,” I said.
He was silent for a while as he stared at me. “You know what that means, right?”
I tensed up a little. When he was serious, he was so intimidating.

“Once you become one of my people, there is no turning back. You can’t ever leave me,” he continued explaining. “So, you have to choose now. You can either leave when you still have the chance to, or never leave at all.”
I understood what he meant this time. I looked away from him for a while. Even though I didn’t know him too well, my dad had clearly said I could trust him
So I nodded. “Im one of your own.” I said.
My answer seemed to have satisfied him. He nodded. “Go and handle whatever it is now. When we go back to the bunker, it will be difficult to get such a chance.”
I was relieved. “Thanks,” I said. I needed to go back to check up on Adam. I had left him with strangers.
“Just come back before dusk.” he added. I nodded again before rushing to my room to change.
I didn’t understand why he was so nice. People back at the bunker said so many evil things about him.
And besides, he still had his doubts about me. There was Maya, right? Everyone thought that she was Master’s daughter, and not me. I didn’t know if he trusted me, or if he was just putting me to the test.
When I came downstairs, he was still there. “I’ll leave now,” I said tensely and walked towards the door.
But he stopped me. “Wait,” he said. I shut my eyes tightly, hoping that he hadn’t changed his mind.
Mafia bosses like him were at times unpredictable. Maybe he had changed his mind at the last minute.
“Mmh!” 1 slowly turned to look at him.
He forced a card into my hands. “Use this for now,” he said.
I shook my head. “No, I. I began speaking. He had already paid for my clothes. I didn’t want to keep spending his money.
But he brushed me off. “I know you don’t have any money on you now, but you might need it. You can pay me back later,” he said.
I hesitated again before nodding. “Thanks,” I said again. He wasn’t bad.
Tony’s POV
Immediately Kelly left, I took out my phone and made a call.
Drake picked up immediately. “Boss, how are you? Are you okay?” he asked worriedly.
I brushed him off. “I’m fine.” I said. “Any report on Maya?”
Drake sighed in fear. “Boss, I wanted to talk to you about her…”
“Speak,” I replied and waited. As I had expected of him, he had something.
“Um. I had some people watch her secretly like you said. Ever since we left the bunker, she has been on calls now and then,” Drake explained in one breath.

1 sat up. “They know each other?” I asked, a dark expression on my face.
“Seems like it,” Drake replied. “But… it could just be a call. We…”
“I want to listen to the calls next time,” I replied calmly before hanging up.
Kelly’s POV
I didn’t know why I felt tensed up when I walked into the old couple’s yard. My heart kept beating so fast.
You came back,” the old man said when he saw me. He was watering the vegetables in the garden at the front.
I nodded back. “Mmh,” I said. “I had to keep my promise.”
But the expression on the man’s face made me feel like something wasn’t right..
“Why don’t you come in?” He asked and wanted to take the bags I was carrying. I had used Tony’s money to buy them a few things.
Since he was old, I shook my head. “I’ll carry them in,” I said.
But even after waiting in the living room for a while, I didn’t see any sign of Adam. I couldn’t just sit still. “Where is Adam?” 1 asked.
The old man sighed. “I don’t know how to tell you this. I failed you,” he said sadly.
My eyes immediately turned red. “Did they get to him?” I asked. He was just a child.
“They were armed. They swore to kill us if we didn’t hand him over. We tried to hide him, but Adam went to them when we were distracted. He said he didn’t want them to hurt us,” the old man explained.
I paused and looked at the man. “Does that mean that they took him alive?” I asked some hope returning to my eyes. Maybe. Adam was still alive.
The man immediately nodded. “Yeah,” he said. “The reason we let them leave was because they promised to keep him safe. They said they wouldn’t hurt him.”
“What?” I was shocked. The men after Adam were trying to kill him. If it was not them, then who was it?
“Did Adam say anything about the people who took him?” I asked again. I was in between hope and fear.
The old man sighed. “He said he didn’t know them,” he said. “We are sorry we let you down.”
“It’s okay,” I said sadly. “Adam is a clever boy. I wouldn’t have forgiven myself if something had happened to you. I hope to
find him.”
After talking with them for a while, even though I was absent–minded, I left. But Adam’s little face never left my mind.
“Where are you, Adam?” I asked. “I want to know if you are okay.”
Tony’s POV
I was in the living room when Kelly stumbled into the house. “You are late,” I said, looking at my watch.
When she asked for the day off. I didn’t expect her to be gone the whole day, It was late at night.
But she lost her balance and fell to the ground.
