Chapter 2
Justus’s desire faded away as soon as the words were spoken.
He stood up, his face darkened.
“She was just a stepmother with no blood relation, and she’s dead now. Don’t forget your current identity, I, the Soto family, cannot afford to lose this person!”
“Santino, although not born from your womb, still has half of your blood and genes. You have raised him for seven years, and now you want to leave, Kenley, you are truly selfish!”
When he mentioned his identity, I was momentarily confused.
What was my identity?
Was the Powell family the illegitimate child who couldn’t see the light, the nanny that Justus brought in to raise the children, or the detestable mistress that Santino spoke of?
Back then, Justus and my half–sister were the envy of everyone as a heavenly couple in high society.
The Powell family’s status rose with the tide and became one of the top elites in wealth and fame.
Perhaps the relationship between the two people was so sweet that even the heavens were jealous. Kiersten Powell was born without eggs and could not conceive.
But she loved children so much and didn’t want to use someone else’s eggs. Her younger sister was too young, so she turned to me, who was struggling because of lack of money.
One million, paid for the foster mother’s surgery fee, and took away my first child.
Later, Kiersten Powell passed away unexpectedly, and before her death, she was worried that Santino would be left without anyone to take care of him. She hoped that I would be the one to raise
Santino.
The Powell family was originally unwilling, but they were even more unwilling for Justus to marry a girl from another family, which would affect the family’s interests. So they changed my surname back to Powell and sent me to the Soto’s mansion.
Justus listened obediently to Kiersten’s words, so we made a pact that I would wholeheartedly raise Santino, ensuring that Kiersten would not rest uneasily after her death.
And they were responsible for all the medical expenses and treatment fees of my foster mother before her passing.
I was hastily taken to the courthouse, without a ring, without a wedding.

For the past seven years, there was only one husband who didn’t love me and one child who saw me
as an enemy.
I said quietly:
“When I first came to the Soto family, it was only to save my foster mother. We all had our own motives, and now that my foster mother has passed away, I no longer have a reason to stay.”
“Moreover, Santino didn’t like me either. If I had stayed, it would only have made him even unhappier, which wouldn’t have been beneficial for the physical and mental development of the future heir of the Soto family.”
Justus rarely softened his expression, considering Santino’s feelings.
“If you were worried that Santino and you weren’t close, and that you wouldn’t have any support in the future, wait until I give you back the egg, and then we can have a child together.”
“Although I wouldn’t allow this child to have the surname Soto, I could arrange a position for him
in the company when he grows up, and the treatment would certainly not be inferior. You as well…”
I interrupted him lightly and took out the divorce agreement that had been signed.
“Thank you for your kind offer, Mr. Soto, but it’s not necessary. Please sign it.”
Over the years, due to my identity and the Soto family’s attitude, I have had enough of the
outsiders‘ disdainful looks and mockery.
If another child not recognized by the Soto family were to be born, that would truly be a self–inflicted disgrace.
Justus completely lost his patience and tore the agreement to pieces.
“Kenley Powell, I see that you have had too many good days, deliberately seeking dissatisfaction!”
“Since you were unwilling to wear those dresses, you don’t have to attend tonight’s dinner, so as
not to ruin the party I organized for Kiersten!”
The Soto family held a banquet at home, but the lady was not allowed to attend, which was a great
shame.
But I didn’t care.
When the banquet ended, it was already late at night, and there came a burst of laughter and joy
from outside.

into the hadroom at the
end of the hallway.
In the blink of an eye, seven years had passed, and the Powell family’s little princess had finally grown up and started to resemble Kiersten more and more.
That used to be Justus and Kiersten’s bedroom.
I was once punished by him for accidentally trespassing in the heavy snow, and I had to kneel for three days. I almost crippled my legs.
At that time, I was lying on the hospital bed, with my knees ulcerated and oozing pus, in so much
pain that I curled up my body.
Justus came to see me, and I thought he had softened his heart, but he said coldly:
“It’s good to know the pain. When the leg hurt, I wouldn’t go to the places where I shouldn’t have gone again.”
Now, with a face similar to Kiersten’s, Ciara
wly moved in.
The servants looked at me with disdainful eyes, and there was a lot of discussion.
Some people, even if they went to great lengths to sneak into the Soto mansion, still couldn’t win the favor of Mr. Soto and Mr. Santino. They couldn’t even enter a single bedroom in their own house, which became a laughingstock when it was known.
“Of course, in Mr. Soto’s heart, there was only the former lady. Some people were just nannies brought back to take care of the children. Now, the Powell family’s little princess has also grown up, looking so much like the former lady. How could Mr. Soto not be moved? It seems that we are going to have a new lady again.”
I ignored the mockery and was about to turn around when a metal–made dart flew towards me.
The dart flew past my face, its sharp edge cutting through the skin, and a warm stream slowly
flowed down.
Santino played with the remaining darts in his hand and made a funny face at me.
I hated seeing your face, and sooner or later I would disfigure you. My aunt said that bad women deserve to be ugly monsters!
I suddenly remembered that when Santino was three years old, he caught a cold and had a fever. I took care of him day and night without eating or sleeping for two days.
When he finally recovered from the fever, I too had endured with disheveled hair, dark circles

under my eyes as thick as ink, resembling a female ghost from the television.
But he held onto my neck, speaking in a childish and whiny voice,
“Auntie was the most beautiful, even more beautiful than a fairy,”
As Ciara grew older, she would often come to visit Santino. It was from that time onwards that he started to dislike me more and more.
I picked up the dart and aimed it at Santino, my tone indifferent.
“Santino, have I not taught you that if you harm others, you must also bear the consequences yourself?”
