Chapter 9
After all the treatment, I could finally use my voice again. I still could not shout, but I could talk and chat with no problems.
The soft lights in the bridal shop shone down on me as I stood there in a wedding dress covered in little diamonds, feeling like I was in a daze.
“Does it look nice?”
I asked quietly. My voice was still a bit raspy but so much clearer than before.
Jeremy was behind me, staring at me like I was the only thing he could see, all that love and admiration just written all over his face.
He reached out, lightly brushed my shoulder, and murmured, “It looks perfect, like something out of a dream.”
I could not help but laugh and pinched his cheek. “Mr. Tully, when did you become so sweet?”
He caught my hand and held it tight, his tone dead serious. “I mean every word.”
I looked at him and felt this warmth blooming inside me.
It was kinda funny. I spent three years with Kevin and put up with all that hate and humiliation.
Still, he never once stood up for me. He just brushed me off with empty words every single time.
Yet Jeremy could not wait to tell the world I was his fiancée.

Chapter 9
Even when my voice was barely back, he was already down on one knee asking me to marry him.
“Bree, try this one too.”
Jeremy lifted another dress, his eyes full of hope.
Just as I reached for it, the glass door of the shop slammed open.
“Aubree!”
That voice made my whole body freeze.

Kevin was standing there at the door. His suit was all wrinkled, his eyes were bloodshot, and his whole vibe was dripping with that desperate, twisted obsession.
He just stared at me, and when his eyes landed on my wedding dress, his whole face fell.
“You’re really going to marry him?” His voice was rough and broken.
I stepped back without thinking, and Jeremy instantly moved in front of me, his tone icy.
“Mr. Molloy, you need to leave.”
However, Kevin acted like he did not even hear him. He walked right up and reached for my wrist.
“Bree, let’s talk…”
I dodged him fast. His fingertips just brushed my sleeve and caught nothing.
He froze, a flicker of hurt in his eyes like he could not believe I had really stepped away.

I took a deep breath and met his eyes head–on. “Kevin, we’re done.”
When he heard my voice, he looked shocked for a second. I had not spoken in so long.
“Bree, you… you can talk now?”

However, when he saw how calm I was, the surprise drained out of him. He forced a weak smile, but it looked more like a wince.
“Done? No, I won’t accept that. We love each other so much…..”
“Love?”
I actually laughed. “Your so–called love was letting me get attacked over and over and never once clearing things up for me. Your love was leaving for me. Your love was leaving me to burn while you ran off with Rylee without a glance back.”
His face went white. His lips were trembling, but he could not say a word back.
Jeremy’s arm slipped around my shoulders, his voice sharp as a blade. “Mr. Molloy, please show some self–respect.”
Kevin’s eyes darted between us, then locked on me like he was drowning. “Bree, please, just one more chance, okay?”
I shook my head and said it as gently as I could. “It’s too late.”
He just stood there, eyes going dim. Finally, he took two unsteady steps back, and without another word, he turned and walked out.
The glass door swung shut behind him, and I watched his figure vanish into the sunlight.
I turned to look at myself in the mirror again, and this time, I knew I would never be that fool again.
