Chapter 4
My blood dripped onto my white skirt, blooming like red flowers.
The whole place turned chaotic–reporters were running everywhere, and no one cared that I was still standing there, bleeding.
“Kevin!” The noises drowned out my hoarse cries.
A few reporters stayed behind, shoving mics in my face.
“Ms. Riordan, why did Kevin leave you but protect Rylee?”
“Did you guys fall out ages ago? People say you faked a pregnancy to force him to marry you. Is that true?”
“Did you know about them this whole time?”
The questions spun in my head like a swarm of bees.
I pushed my way through the crowd and finally got into a cab. When I looked in the rearview mirror, my own bloodied face almost made me jump.
The driver was so shocked, he nearly slammed on the gas. “Miss, do you need the hospital?”
I clenched my teeth and gave him the address of the villa.
The second I got home, I started throwing my stuff into a suitcase like a maniac. However, just as I zipped it up, I heard the door slam open downstairs.
Kevin stormed up the stairs and grabbed me in seconds. “Aubree Riordan!

Where did you hide Rylee?”
What was he saying?
Before I could react, he shoved me onto the bed like a madman.

He grabbed my collar and yanked me up. “Don’t play dumb, you were the last person with her!”
I shook my head frantically, forcing out a broken, raspy sound. “I didn’t…”
Then his phone rang. Kevin let me go and picked up the phone. On speaker, Rylee’s sobs came through.
“Kev, help me! Aubree locked me up on set and said she’d burn me alive. The fire’s huge! Come save me!
“I’ll never fight for your love with her again. Please, please let me go…”
A chill ran down my spine. I waved my hands, trying desperately to explain, but he did not even look at me.

Kevin dragged me out by my hair, yelling, “If anything happens to Rylee, I’ll bury you with her!”
He shoved me into the passenger seat and slammed on the gas.
When we got to the set, thick smoke was pouring out everywhere. Kevin kicked the door open, and a blast of heat and sparks hit him in the face.
Rylee was tied to a chair in the middle of the set, with flames staged perfectly behind her.
She sobbed, “Kev, I knew you’d come to save me…”
The second Kevin got close, Rylee “accidentally” knocked over a gas
barrel.

Chapter 4
The fire shot up to the ceiling, beams crashed down, and I got trapped behind the wall of flames.
“Help!” I croaked, but my broken voice was lost in the roar of the explosion.
“Aubree, you brought this on yourself! Stay here and think about what you did!”
Kevin scooped Rylee into his arms and ran out without even glancing
back.

Three years ago, I ruined my voice saving him from a fire, and that scene still haunts me.
And now, in the same flames, he left me behind like trash.
Smoke filled my lungs, my skin burned, and my knees hit the floor.
I fumbled for my phone. It was burning hot in my pocket as I opened my contacts with shaking hands.
I used up my last bit of strength to send one final message to Jeremy.
“I’ll marry you.”
If I’m still alive then.
