Chapter 2
Everyone on set turned to look at me.
Kevin paused for a second before nodding. “Sure, let Bree do it.”
I froze. I hadn’t done any boxing in eight years. Ever since the fire, my body could not handle this kind of intense stuff anymore.
I shook my head and kept signing no, but in the end, they still pushed me into the dressing room and got me changed.
When I stood on that three–meter–high platform, my legs would not stop shaking
On the first jump, my knees smashed into the ground so hard I nearly blacked out from the pain.
This book had been added on your bookshelf.
The second, I twisted my ankle, and the harness dug deep into my waist.
The third, the fourth… I lost count. Everything started to blur, and I kept jumping like a machine.
“The last one!”
This time, I almost fell straight down, and my right shoulder slammed into the ground with a sickening thud.
I curled up on the cold floor, and the pain made it hard to even breathe.
“Perfect! That’s a wrap!” the director finally called out.
I lay there, waiting for someone to come help me out of the harness.
But all I heard was Rylee suddenly scream, “Ah! I feel so dizzy…”

Chapter 2
Everyone rushed over to her side. Meanwhile, Kevin scooped her up in his arms, yelling, “Call an ambulance!”
No one noticed I was still tied up
In the end, I dragged myself to the on–set clinic, my whole body sore. The doctor told me I had a fracture and needed to go to a bigger hospital.
I stared at the floor. I could not even remember how many jumps it took to break me.
An ambulance took me to the hospital in the city.
As the nurse was putting a cast on me, my phone buzzed.
It was a text from Kevin saying that Rylee was scared and he needed to stay with her, so I should just take a cab home.
My shoulder hurt so bad, but I finished the paperwork myself. When I came back from the nurse’s station, a nurse from the next room came out, chatting with her friend.
“Oh my god, Kevin is even better looking in real life! And he treats Rylee so well. You should’ve seen how worried he looked when he carried her
into the ER…”
Another nurse with short hair made a face and lowered her voice like she was gossiping,
“I think they’re a perfect match. That mute girl doesn’t deserve someone like Kevin anyway.
“She messed up the takes today and made Rylee faint from low blood sugar.”
My feet froze on the spot. My nails dug so deep into my palms that they hurt.

It was Rylee who asked me to be her stand–in, and I was the one who fell and broke a bone, but now they were saying it was my fault.
I lay down, but as soon as my head hit the pillow, I could hear giggling through the thin walls. The VIP room was not soundproof at all.
“Kev, what if someone catches us and takes a picture while you’re feeding me?” Rylee’s voice was so sugary it made my stomach turn.
Kevin’s voice came through, lazy and gentle–the same tone he used to talk to me, “What are you scared of? Just say we’re working on a scene together.”
“Then will Aubree get mad?” Rylee asked, all sweet.
Kevin laughed. “Her? How could a mute get mad?”
I bit down on my lip so hard I tasted blood.
Eight years. I stayed by his side day and night for eight years. I blocked sulfuric acid for him, and I took the hits from psycho fans, but in his eyes, I didn’t even have the right to be upset.
Late at night, I suddenly heard the bedsprings squeaking through the wall.
I froze. Then I heard Rylee’s breathless whisper, “Kev, the door’s not locked…”
