I hurried toward the villa, my heart pounding
I couldn’t wait to share the good news with Kevin.

As I turned the final corner, I saw his black Maybach rocking slightly in the driveway.
I stopped, thinking I was seeing things.
But as I got closer and looked through the half–open window, I saw two bodies tangled together.
Rylee Lawlor was breathless as she asked, “When are you breaking up with her?”
Kevin replied casually, “What’s the rush? She’s mute, so she won’t ruin anything for us.”
Rylee giggled. “Your fans absolutely hate her.”
Pain twisted in my chest. I clenched the pregnancy test so tightly that it crumpled in my hand.
So it turned out that in all those eight years, there was never any real love. It was all just an act.
I took a few steps back, wanting to run away from this disgusting scene. But just then, my phone chimed.
It was a calendar reminder for Kevin’s shoot the next day.
The two people inside the car stopped right away.

The door opened, and Kevin stepped out, a bright red kiss mark on his neck. “Bree? What are you doing here?”
I stared at that mark, my throat tightening.

My vocal cords were damaged in a fire. Since then, I could barely speak above a whisper. So his fans called me “the mute girl.
“You don’t look well.” He reached out to touch my forehead.
I instinctively stepped back.
Annoyance flickered across his face, but he quickly managed a gentle smile. “Did you get caught in the rain? Go inside and change. Come to the set with me later.”
I used to love visiting the set until I caught him and Rylee acting all sweet behind the scenes.
Besides, I’d once been kidnapped by his rabid fans and whipped ninety- nine times in an abandoned warehouse. I was still traumatized by it.
So I pressed my lips together and signed, “My stomach hurts. I don’t want to go.”
But Kevin dragged me into the car anyway. “Come on, Bree. Today’s scene is important. I want you there.”
The set was full of people. Rylee, in costume, was rehearsing with the stunt coordinator.
The moment she saw us, her eyes lit up and she ran over. “Hi, Kev!”
I quietly stepped behind the monitor. This scene was a fight sequence between Kevin and Rylee.
Everything went fine until the high–platform jump

Just before the leap, Rylee bit her lip and swayed. “Sorry, Director… I think I’m having a sugar crash…” she said softly.

Panic rippled through the crew. Kevin rushed over to support her, and her assistant handed her a chocolate bar.
She leaned weakly into his arms, gazing up at him pitifully. “I’m so sorry… I’m holding everyone up…”
Then she turned her head and looked straight at me in the shadows.
“How about… letting Aubree do it instead? She’s about my size and and has trained in boxing. She’s got great chemistry with Kev…”
