Chapter 8 Rescue
Terrell brought the police to save me.
My clothes were torn. Terrell took off his jacket and covered me
up before picking me up bridal style. All the way to the police
station, he refused to let go.
When we left the police station, I saw a black Maybach waiting
in the distance.
The plate wasn’t as lowkey as the car’s exterior.
Normally, you couldn’t even pay for a special plate like this. It
showed the owner must be powerful.
Since university, I knew Terrell was from a rich family.
His driver escorted him to the campus every day in a luxury car.
This time was the same. A driver got out of the car and opened
the door for us humbly.
Terrell sat next to me in the car.
As if he was worried I’d suddenly vanish, he leaned over,
leaving no space between us.

Noticing my confusion, he said, “I was in the area to meet a
friend. When I saw you enter the building, I got curious and
followed you. I didn’t know it was a trap. Then, I called the
police.”
Really?
I didn’t think it was a coincidence.
However, I didn’t press.
Terrell comforted me, “Don’t think about it. It’s over.“”
Soon, the car arrived at Benevolence Hospital.
Terrell got out of the car and extended a hand to me.
Someone ran over and punched him!
“What are you doing with my wife?!”
I got out of the car and saw an angry Lamar.
Lamar tried for another swing but got pulled away by the
guards.
Terrell seemed to worry about what people would think this
time as he didn’t carry me again, merely holding my hand.

As we walked away, I heard Lamar shout hysterically behind
- us. “Shameless bastard! How dare you seduce my wife?! The
nerve you have! Just wait!”
After a series of check–ups, Terrell escorted me to a room with
intensive care, the type that wouldn’t allow family to visit.
“Why didn’t you tell me about your cancer?” Terrell asked.
“Why should I?” I retorted calmly.
“Fine,” he smiled in resignation. “Alexandra, after all these years,
you haven’t changed one bit.”
“What?”
“You’re still so proud and stubborn.”
I stared at him and said in my hoarse voice, “Mr. Bauer, please
keep it secret for me.”
“Keep it from your husband too?” His fine brows knitted
together.
“Yes”
However, Lamar wouldn’t be my husband for long.
I had enough of this loveless marriage.
Chapter 8 Rescue
The desire to divorce him grew stronger.
In the afternoon, Terrell returned to work.
When my colleagues visited me, someone gave me an update.
The illegal loan company Alivia set me up with had been taken
out.
Over 20 mobs had been arrested, including Zack.
Yet, Alivia wasn’t a willing participant.
Via the false advert, the gang lured people in and used the usury
to destroy the victims‘ lives.
If the victims were young women, the pretty ones would be
forced to shoot porn or nude photos, so they could make a
fortune. The fate of the less pretty women was even worse as
they’d be sold to human traffickers and be forced to work as
prostitutes abroad.
My colleagues went back to work after a brief chat.
I took out my phone and turned it on. There were numerous
missed calls.
All from Lamar.

He also sent texts on WhatsApp.
“Where are you, Alexandra?”
“Answer me, Alexandra!”
“Text me back!”
“Mattie and I aren’t what you think we are.”
“Alexandra?!”
“What happened?! Say something!”
“Are you mad?”
It went on and on.
Suddenly, my phone rang. It was Lamar.
I picked it up.
“Alexandra, tell me where you are now!”
Lamar sounded frustrated.
