Chapter 7 Usury
My phone rang.
It was the expert I made an appointment with.
“Ms. Harmon, how are you doing? Are you ready for the
surgery?” the expert asked in concern.
“I’m alright. Thanks.” I paused for a second but eventually made
up my mind. “I’ll take the surgery soon.”
“As soon as possible. Your condition is critical,” the expert said
solemnly.
“OK.”
I was at a loss after the call.
As I strolled through Instagram idly, I came upon an advert for
loans. The post was from Alivia Irwin, my classmate at the
university.
The load was targeted office workers and salariat. The
conditions seemed tempting.
Back in university, Alivia was top of the class and had many

talents, so she was the event planner. However, medicine wasn’t
her passion. She worked in the other field after graduation.
Judging from her frequent posts, she was doing well.
From time to time, we had dinner and talked about our lives.
Out of my trust in Alivia, I called her for a loan.
We spent the entire afternoon discussing and filling out forms.
Alivia told me that she helped me apply for 50,000 dollars and
the company had granted it. Once I went to her office to
complete the procedure, I could get the money.
The interest rate was reasonable. 50,000 dollars could be
repayable in installments. So, it wouldn’t cause financial
difficulties for me.
The next morning.
I met up with Alivia as scheduled. After a chitchat, she brought
me to her company.
It was small, barely noticeable in an office building.
Alivia took me to a tiny reception room and made tea for me
before walking out.
Soon, a man and a woman came into the room.

From their ID badges, I knew the man was the manager and the
woman his assistant.
“I’m the manager here. Call me Zack. You’re Alivia’s client,
right?”
Somehow, the man’s smile gave me chills.
I nodded softly.
The woman handed me two contracts. “Miss, please take a look.
We can sign it if there’s no problem.”
I accepted the contract and started reading carefully.
The context seemed OK.
As I picked a pen to sign, someone opened the door roughly.
Several men came in, all looking dangerous.
I looked at them warily.
“Zack, what’s the meaning of this?”
Zack merely smiled. His assistant looked at me up and down and said, “You want a loan? Strip and let us take some photos!”
A chill ran down my spine. I trembled in horror.

Finally, I realized this was a trap.
This company was illegal.
These men were…loan sharks!
Staring at Zack’s crooked smile, I yelled, my voice hoarse, “I don’t
need your loan! Let me go!”
Zack glanced at his men and arched an eyebrow. “Really? You
don’t need it now?
“Let me be clear! Once you come into my company, it’s not up to
you! You must pay a little interest now!”
Zack’s lewd gaze roamed through me.
I trembled harder. My mind went blank!
Zack ordered the men, “What are you waiting for? Go!”
“She’s pretty. Let us have some fun with her before we take her
to shooting.”
The men lunged at me.
Their hands grabbed my clothes and my hair, tearing them as
they made lewd moves toward me…
I was drowning in fear and despair.
Suddenly, I heard police sirens approaching…
