Terrell knew everything that happened in the hospital.
I said calmly, Having surgery in another hospital. Needs money.
What surgery Terrell pressed.
You’ll know when I bring my medical record back to ask for a
sick leave, Dr. Bauer.
After a pause, Terrell said, Alexandra, you can talk to me if
you’re in trouble.
Thanks, but I don’t think so.
Once I hung up, I decided not to get the advance.
The number wasn’t nearly enough for the surgery. And once I
took it, everyone would know.
I returned to Moonstone Heights after work.
As soon as I walked through the door, I met Lamar’s dark gaze.
You’re passionate about your job, he said in sarcasm.
He raised his arm, drawing my attention to the stack of papers

Before I could answer, Lamar sneered, Alexandra, you’re so
good at playing the victim. To get my attention, you lie about
having thyroid cancer!
I scoffed inwardly, At this point, he still believes I’m lying.
Whatever. I didn’t care.
I turned to go back to the bedroom. Lamar lunged at me. He
gripped my arm to force me to face him. His eyes turned red in
anger.
Admit your wrongdoings! Come with me to apologize to Mattie!
This was what he had in mind
I broke free forcefully and slapped him hard.
I used my whole strength. My hand stung.
As I intended, a clear hand mark appeared on Lamar’s
handsome face.
Do it yourself. I’m not going.
At that moment, I suddenly realized that I barely had the
strength to speak.

Alexandra! Fuming, Lamar pointed a finger at me.
The staring contest ended when Lamar grabbed my arm again
and started dragging me toward the door.
Alexandra, you must apologize to Mattie!
I wanted to scream. But as soon as I opened my mouth, I felt a
sharp pain in my throat like I’d swallowed a razor blade.
Immediately, I was covered in cold sweat.
Don’t touch me! I threw Lamar’s hand off.
Lamar stared at me.
Suddenly, I had trouble breathing.
However, Lamar merely smirked, You enjoy pretending to be
sick so much
As if something was blocking my airway, it was suffocating. I
felt like I was dying.
I crouched down and heaved heavily. My hands scratched the
wall involuntarily.
Lamar finally realized something was wrong. He shook my
shoulder and asked hastily, Alexandra! What’s wrong
