Chapter 3 Targeting
Three years ago, our school had only one spot for a study
abroad program in Welnaria.
But both of us had the highest grades in the whole school.
After they looked at everything, the school added another spot,
one for each of us.
However, my dad and stepmom made me give up the chance to
go abroad and marry Lamar instead.
I still remembered the day I got married, Terrell called me.
He was wasted and blurted out a bunch of blessings.
Then he asked me, Alexandra, tell me, do you even like him If
not, I’ll get you out of there.
I had no idea what he was talking about, so I didn’t answer.
That was when we totally lost touch.
Alexandra.
Suddenly, Terrell looked right at me. Give us your treatment
plan.
Chapter 3 Targeting
Huh Why so quiet He pressed.
I replied, kind of embarrassed, Sorry, I…was late and missed
what you guys were talking about.
Dwayne chimed in, Alexandra, why don’t you take a break You
sound like you’ve got a cold.
I didn’t know what to say.
I got diagnosed with early–stage thyroid cancer at another big
hospital.
So my colleagues in the department had no clue about my
cancer.
Alexandra, you’re not in any shape to work, Terrell said.
His voice was usually nice and distinctive, but right now, it was
ice–cold.
The office was packed, and everyone’s eyes turned to me.
I could feel my cheeks getting hot.
Terrell then looked at Dwayne. Dwayne, how about this Put
Alexandra on leave for a week. If she’s still like this when she
comes back, let her go!
Chapter 3 Targeting
Was he seriously targeting me!
I was so angry that I could hardly breathe.
Dwayne gave me a helpless look and nodded.
I couldn’t hold back anymore. I stood up and yelled at Terrell,
I’ve never messed up at work! What gives you the right to put
me on leave!
It was then that I realized my voice was so hoarse I could barely
hear myself.
Dwayne grabbed my arm. Alexandra, sit down.
I sat back down, still fuming.
Then Dwayne turned to Terrell, being polite. Mr. Bauer,
Alexandra hasn’t been feeling great lately, so she’s acting like
this. Putting her on leave might be a bit too much. How about I
give her a few days off to rest at home
He could be tough sometimes and would tell the boss about his subordinates‘ problems, but he was actually a pretty decent guy.
Alright, you decide, Terrell said, his face still blank. Let’s get back to what we were talking about earlier.
Just then, the head nurse from our department walked in and

said to me, Dr. Harmon, the patient with a concussion we admitted last night wants you to be her doctor.
Confused, I stood up and followed the head nurse to a VIP room.
When I saw who was in there, I was stunned.
It was Lamar and Matilda!
Lamar was sitting on the edge of the bed, holding Matilda.
Matilda was cuddled up to his chest, whining, Lamar, my head
hurts.
Lamar stroked her hair. It’s okay. I’m here for you.
