Chapter 16 The Photo
Terrell and I were like enemies back in college, so we hardly had
any photos together.
The only one was taken at a party.
I lost a game of truth or dare and had to take a photo with him
while doing something intimate.
Terrell was extremely reluctant, and I pretended to be just as
reluctant. But later, I secretly treasured the photo.
One time, Lamar stumbled upon it, and we had a huge fight. He
accused me of having feelings for another man while still
agreeing to marry him.
I told him we were just classmates, and Lamar didn’t press
further.
Now he was suddenly bringing it up again, clearly trying to
settle old scores.
When I walked in, Lamar let out a cold laugh.
“In such a hurry? Worried I’d do something to your lover?”

I still had work to do, so I had to cut to the chase and pull Lamar
aside.
I showed him my phone. It was my chat with Matilda.
“Lamar came to the hospital to see me. He said he missed me. Did
you know that?”
Matilda had replied, “You two are meant for each other. I’m the
extra one here.”
Even through the screen, I could smell the jealousy brewing.
I saw Lamar’s face turn pale instantly. He shot me a hateful
glare and rushed off to comfort her.
With him, Matilda would always come first.
I didn’t understand why Lamar suddenly started caring about
me again. He even came to the hospital to look for me.
But this wouldn’t win me over.
Once I got time, I would file for divorce.
Back at the office, it was just Terrell and me. Now that Lamar
was gone, there wasn’t much left to say.
I apologized. “Sorry for the drama.”
Chapter 16 The Photo
Lamar would have caused a bigger scene in public.
Bringing him to the office was Terrell’s way of helping me.
After saying that, I was ready to leave. Just as I stepped forward,
Terrell suddenly asked, “What photo was he talking about?”
Still holding onto an old classmate’s photo after all these years.
did look weird.
I took a deep breath and replied casually, “Just forgot to delete it.
He saw it by accident and that’s all.”
Terrell clearly didn’t buy it. He chuckled. “Didn’t you say you’d
delete it as soon as you got home? You told me you hated having
a photo with me.”
We were young and foolish, always too scared to admit our true
feelings.
But bringing that up now was pointless.
Even though I was a bit bothered, I quickly let it go.
“What, I can’t keep a photo of a handsome guy? I might need to
show it to a friend someday!”
Whether he believed me or not, I pushed the door open and
walked out.

Just before it shut, I thought I heard him chuckle softly.
Finally getting a short break around noon, I went to the
restroom to fix my hair and wash my face.
Sweat sticking to my hair was seriously uncomfortable.
I reached into my pocket to check my messages and realized I’d
left my phone back in the office.
When I returned to get it, I saw Terrell holding my phone,
talking to someone. I froze.
He didn’t know my password, so he couldn’t have unlocked it
himself. Someone must have called.
Could it be Lamar?
I rushed over to grab the phone, but he’d already ended the call.
Setting the phone aside, Terrell frowned and asked, “How much
more do you need for the surgery? Why are you still putting it
off?”
So it was a call from the hospital.
I shot him a cold glance. “That’s none of your business.”
He had the money. He would transfer it right after I told him an

amount.
How
But I genuinely didn’t want to owe Terrell anything.
I was still as stubborn as I was three years ago.
I didn’t change much in that sense.
