Chapter 9
While Mabel was away, Anna had the full attention of Glen, Brett, and Julian.
Brett would deliver a steaming hot meal to her bedside every morning as soon as she awoke.
“Ms. Anna, your breakfast is ready.”
She yawned softly and looked at the lovely spread on the table. Then, she smiled sweetly at him.
“Thank you, Brett.” She signed with graceful, gentle hands.
He grinned in response. “As long as you like it, that’s all that matters.”
When she opened the door, Julian was already waiting outside, ready to accompany and protect her wherever she went.
“Ms. Anna, while your sister is away, I’ll be the one looking after you.”
Anna stood on her tiptoes and gently patted his head. “Thank you, Julian.”
Meanwhile, Glen drove her around every day. He was ready wherever she wanted to go with just a gesture or signal.
to go
At first, the three men were relieved that Mabel was gone. But after three days passed with no sign of her return, a sense of unease slowly began to settle in.
Just as they were going to ask Melvin when she’d return, they saw Anna in the study, signing smoothly with him.

“Dad, has Mabel actually arrived at the Normans‘ residence? When will they send someone to treat me?”
Melvin responded, “Soon. Don’t worry. She’s probably still adjusting. Besides, you’re doing much better already, aren’t you? You’ve even started talking again. Why are you still using sign language with me?”
After he finished speaking, she actually spoke. Her voice was soft. “I don’t feel fluent yet. I want the Norman family’s doctor to examine me personally. Otherwise, what’s the point of sending Mabel there?”
He sighed. “Alright, alright. You’re my little sweetheart. Have I ever denied you anything these past years? If it weren’t for your insistence on having the Norman doctor treat you, I wouldn’t have pushed Mabel to go in the first place.”
As he was talking, he caught sight of the three men standing in the doorway.
“Ms. Anna, you…”
“You can talk now?”
“When did this happen?”
Anna stammered, taken aback by their unexpected arrival. “I… just learned. I am still… not fluent. I wanted to surprise you all.
Glen forced a smile. “That’s good news.
But when he gazed at the woman in front of him, something felt off in his chest. Strangely, he did not feel joyful at all.
All he could think about was where Mabel had gone and when she’d be returning
“Mr. Jackson.” Julian stepped forward. “We came today to ask, when will

Ms. Mabel return? I am her bodyguard. I should be by her side. If anything happens to her…”
Before he could finish, Brett interrupted, saying, “Sir, I’d also like to know. I am her personal chef.”
“You three won’t be serving Mabel anymore,” Melvin replied firmly.
The men exchanged puzzled looks, uncertain what he meant.
Melvin’s tone was icy and unwavering. “There will be no Mabel Jackson in this house beginning today. From now on, your devotion is with Anna. Whatever Mabel paid you, I will continue to do so. Going forward, only Ms. Anna will exist in your head. Not the so–called eldest daughter. Understood?”
“What?” Glen’s voice was almost a whisper. He turned to look at Anna with shock, who smiled at him sweetly.
“Mabel’s gone to marry the Scion of New York. Don’t worry. She’ll be absolutely thrilled.”
