I looked at her.
“They can’t stop me!”
Beatrix’s words answered my current doubts.
After all, Declan had gone to great lengths to trap me.
“Miss! Sir said if you want a divorce, I can take you away right now!”
Beatrix lowered her head, paused, then continued with a heavy tone, “Sir said if you don’t want a divorce, I can take you to live on an estate in the suburbs, far away from them.”
“You can adopt a little miss and a little master, plant a whole garden of flowers and grass, have cats and dogs…”
My eyes lit up.
Beatrix reminded me of something I had forgotten.
Adeline was allergic to pollen, so the day before she moved in, Genevieve stood upstairs giving orders, while Declan humbly obeyed.
The flowers and plants I had planted in the backyard garden were pulled out one by one by Declan and sent to the waste disposal site.
Yes, my flowers were trash, and so was I.

“Sister’s flowers are so beautiful, Declan should be invited to admire them.”
The creak of the door brought me out of my thoughts.
Beatrix immediately took a defensive stance, protecting me, full of suspicion.
No need to ask.
I instinctively grabbed her hand and shook my head.
The door lock code was changed the day Adeline moved in, and it was standardized, including for my room.
Genevieve said that since Adeline was pregnant, her memory might decline and she was new and unfamiliar with the place. Since we’re all family, there was no need for passwords.
Initially, they wanted to remove the lock from my room.
Because Genevieve thought she was the real mistress of this house, she believed she should have free access to any part of it, and there shouldn’t be any secrets she didn’t know.
Including my intimate moments with Declan.
“Oh! I forgot! Declan never liked flowers and plants, or he wouldn’t have personally taken them to the waste site.”
She enunciated every word, as if worried I wouldn’t understand her sarcasm.
Too bad she couldn’t see my smile.
I had Beatrix turn my wheelchair to face her directly.
“Always calling him brother, what, are you laying eggs?”
Sorry, since I can’t hit you, I’ll have to insult you.
I pretended to forget, “Oh! I also forgot! Your egg needs at least six more months to hatch! So, are you planning to add soy sauce or not?”
“Are you planning to lay it in the backyard garden, or outside in the waste disposal site?”
As expected.
Adeline smiled, and the next second, she acted.
I glanced over, and Beatrix, swift as lightning, grabbed her wrist, stopping her slap mid–air.
“What? After lying in bed for ten years, you don’t even have the strength to hit?”
I taunted her.
“Nora!”
