A wave of irritation surged in my heart, even in death, I couldn’t have peace. I watched Lachlan tirelessly profess his love to Adeline, massaging her waist, carrying her to wash up. Even though I had lost hope in him, a pang of bitterness still rose in my heart. I turned my head, facing the window, staring blankly at the bustling streets below. At night, Lachlan and Adeline cuddled intimately all night, while I sat silently,
back to them, through the night.
I feel so disgusted that I could vomit.
I want to leave, but my spirit is tethered to Lachlan, unable to stray more than a few steps away. This leaves me agitated, even in death I find no peace. I watch Lachlan tirelessly express his affection for Adeline, tending to her needs and carrying her to freshen up. Though I’ve lost faith in him, a bitter feeling still lingers in my heart.
I turn my head toward the window, staring blankly at the bustling traffic below. At night, Lachlan and Adeline exchange sweet nothings while I sit silently, facing away from them, enduring the whole night.
The next morning, Lachlan helps her with her morning routine, feeds her breakfast, and kisses Adeline for a long time. After their lips part,
Lachlan looks somewhat reluctant.
“Addie, yesterday was the last day.”
“I’ve stayed with you for seven days. From now on, we go our separate ways. I need to return home and fulfill my promise to Nora.”
“I have to find her.”
My spirit hovers beside him, finding it all so absurd.
Find me? Is he searching for my body?
But I’m already gone, Lachlan.
Adeline clings to him, not wanting to let go, tears streaming down her face.
“Ethan, you’ve already deceived her for seven days. What difference does another month, three months, or half a year make?”
“Don’t you want to be with me? I won’t die, and we can be together forever.”
“Please, divorce her and don’t go back to Nora?”
Hearing this, Lachlan’s expression turns dark and conflicted.
“Didn’t you say before the wedding that you wanted to make up for our regrets, which is why you wanted me to stay for seven days?”
“Addie, I do like you, but I’m already married. I’m Nora’s husband, and I won’t divorce her.”
“I’ve deceived her over these days, done foolish things with you, and caused her much distress, not even letting her see her daughter.”
“I can’t abandon her again.”
I pause, my spirit involuntarily turning to Lachlan, his eyes seemingly sincere.
I frown, not quite understanding his words.
When I accidentally discovered why Lachlan deceived me, I truly thought he had changed because of Adeline.
At that time, I lamented how the gentle, thoughtful man who once loved me was truly just pretending.
He feigned all that love for me, but deep down, he was a rotten person to the core.
But now, what am I hearing?
His morals are intact?
He still has a sense of shame?

His morals are intact?
He still has a sense of shame?
He only knew I wouldn’t leave him, so he shamelessly cheated in front of me.
But this knowing something is wrong and still doing it makes me feel more disgusted than mere baseness.
Lachlan thought he had made himself clear, but Adeline was still relentless.
“Are you really going to watch me marry someone else? We clearly love each other, so why can’t we be together?”
“You and Nora just had a quick wedding with no feelings. She’s not right for you, Ethan.”
“We’re true love!”
“No!” Lachlan’s voice rose, for the first time showing anger towards Adeline.
“I love Nora. She’s my wife, of course, I love her. Otherwise, why would we have a child together? You should know, Addie, I’m not someone who only thinks with the lower half of my body. I have reason, I know what I’m doing.”
“Don’t say these things again. From now on, let’s not contact each other.”
As Lachlan spoke, he took out his phone, deleted Adeline’s contact, and walked out of the hospital room.
Adeline hurriedly got out of bed to catch up, hugging him tightly from behind, now truly sobbing uncontrollably.
“Ethan, according to you, then why did you have a wedding with me, and why did you sleep with me?”
“I’ve given you my body. Are you just taking advantage of me?”
“I won’t allow it. You have to take responsibility for me.
Lachlan frowned deeply, his expression turning cold and serious.
“Adeline, you’re twisting things!”
“Didn’t you say your family was forcing you to marry an old man, and you didn’t want to give your first time to someone you didn’t like, so you begged me to take it?”
“Now you say I deliberately took advantage of you? Fine, let’s just say I was blind and misjudged you.”
“If you want, feel free to report it, accuse me of assault, I’ll face it to the end.”
He tore Adeline’s arms off from around his waist and left without looking back.
“No, that’s not what I meant, Ethan.”
“Ethan, I love you, I truly love you, I can’t live without you, Lachlan.”
Adeline fell to the ground, sobbing and begging, but the man’s steps didn’t pause for a moment.
I glanced at Adeline kneeling on the ground, tears and snot running, feeling only a sense of irony.
She was endlessly attached to and fought with me over such a selfish man.
Clearly, she couldn’t stand the loneliness, wanting to cheat openly, doing all sorts of disgusting things.
And then he turns around and curses.
They should just deal with each other, why did they have to drag me into it?
The day after I died, Lachlan finally returned home.
