I chomped down on his lip, and the tang of metal spread through my mouth, yet Christopher didn’t let go. He kept going on until I was nearly suffocating.
Christopher wiped the blood off his lips and smiled at me. Uh oh. That could not be good. “You faked your death, jumped into the sea, and dragged Sophia around, frolicking with those… men. Perhaps I’ve spoiled you too much, Bianca. You’ve forgotten your place.”
That stoked my fury. “You’re lecturing me? You let your mistress laugh at me! And your brother has a daughter with another woman! You’re both bastards! I’m not going back! We’re getting a divorce!”
I could hear Sophia even from this room. She was furious. “As if I’d buy that story, Charlie! Your daughter is already in high school! You cheated on me right after we got married, and you knocked her up!
“And to think you said you’d love me forever even if I couldn’t have babies! You lied! I know what you and your brother are up to! You think Bianca and I are stupid! I want a divorce, or I’ll tell everyone you cheated on me, and then I’ll sue you! I can’t live with you!”
I couldn’t hear Charlie’s response, but I heard Christopher’s. He asked darkly, “What mistress?”
“Don’t play dumb with me! Lorelei! She texted me!”
“Don’t listen to her. I have nothing to do with her.”
“As if! You turned my pink diamond into a ring, and she used it to get under my skin! Are you blind? And she pushed me into the sea, but you forgave her! You even picked her up from the police station! I’m not stupid! I want a divorce!”
A sharp glint escaped Christopher’s eyes, Shocked, I jumped backward, but he caught up to me and grabbed my arm. “How many times must I tell you that I have nothing to do with her? Can’t you let me explain? Everyone deserves a chance to speak for themselves.”
