We thanked the doctor and tended to them. This was bad. We were going to get a divorce, but now they were hospitalized, and I sighed. When I got into his ward, Christopher lightened up considerably. He held my hand as tightly as he could, in case I ran away again.
Coldly, I said, “I’m only doing this because I don’t want my client to die during their stay. I’d have left anyone else for dead.”
Christopher still refused to let my hand go. “Doesn’t matter. What matters is that I have you. And I do not have an affair with Lorelei. I will give you an answer about the diamond when the time comes.‘

I rolled my eyes and ignored him. Instead, I put the medication in his hand. “Take your meds. I’ll get something light for you.”
Christopher refused to let go. That was annoying. I said, “You still owe me money. I won’t run away. And Sophia’s right next door. I can’t just leave her.”
Only then did he let rny hand go. I got a call from Lorelei when I was getting food for Christopher.
Timidly, she said, “I’m sorry, Ms. Shaw. I do not have an affair with Mr. Lawson. Please don’t take it the wrong way. He wanted me to explain myself because you guys were arguing. I just thought the ring was nice, so I took it from Mr. Lawson.”
Yeah, I’d rather she never explained herself. Christopher knew what that ring meant to me, yet he gave it to a total outsider as if it were nothing. I bet they had an affair.
I snickered. “Done? Then stay away from me.” I hung up, and curiosity got hold of me. Oh, wait, of course she knew my number. Christopher must’ve given it to her. And then she texted me, saying, ‘You care so much about the ring, but I’ve worn it. Even if I give it back, you’ll still feel disgusted, won’t you?‘
I clenched my fist. Yes, I would. That was why I would seek justice.
