Chapter 23
When Elie closed the suitcase, it was drizzling outside the window.
Javon was tidying up the last few books in the living room when he saw her staring blankly at the rain curtain. He walked over and rubbed her head, “Reluctant to leave?”
She shook her head, her gaze sweeping over the small apartment where she had lived for half a year.
On the balcony were the succulents Javon had grown, in the kitchen was the floral apron she had chosen, and on the desk were two medical and planning professional books placed side by side.
The phone suddenly vibrated.
I’m sorry, I only realized now how wrong I was. Back then, I always thought that no matter what I did, you would never leave. I allowed the

was at that moment that I truly felt what regret is.
I won’t bother you anymore… I wish you happiness…. forever happiness… I’m sorry.

Chapter 23
Elie stared at the lines for a long time, so long that when Javon came over with hot milk, the screen had already turned off.
“Do you want a reply? Javon handed her the milk, the temperature just right.”
She shook her head, deleted the message, and stuffed her phone into the middle compartment of her suitcase.
The rain had stopped outside the window, and a ray of sunlight pierced through the clouds, shining directly on the sunflower specimen that Javon had given her last night.
“Let’s go, she said with a smile as she took Javon’s hand, “we still need to catch our flight.”
There was heavy traffic all the way, and by the time they arrived at the airport, there was not much time left for check–in. After passing through security, the two of them quickly picked up the pace.
While checking in at the counter, Elie seemed to have a sudden intuition and turned around.
In the bustling crowd, she seemed to see a familiar tall figure.
The man was wearing a black trench coat, tall and thin in stature. Even with a mask on, one could still sense his incredibly pale complexion.
The two of them, separated by thousands of mountains and rivers, silently locked eyes for a few seconds, neither of them speaking.
Javon followed her gaze and asked, “What’s wrong?”
“It’s okay, just someone unimportant. Elie looked away and handed her boarding pass to the security officer.”

In front of the airport terminal’s floor–to–ceiling windows, Eric watched as the figure gradually disappeared into the distance.
Elie was wearing a light yellow dress, while Javon was talking to her with his head down, making her suddenly burst into laughter, her eyes forming two crescent moons.
Just like many years ago, when she first burned her hand while making coffee for him, she also laughed like this.
The boarding announcement came over the radio, and Eric took out a cigarette before putting it back.
He took one last look at the figure that had already turned into a small black dot, then turned and walked towards the exit in the opposite direction.
After three months of settling down in Paris, Javon decided to propose.
At the moment when the Eiffel Tower lit up, Javon knelt on one knee on
the Seine Riverbank.
“This time you can’t delete my messages again.” He held up the hand with the diamond ring, shaking. Inside the ring was engraved with “E&J 2018.10.28“– the date they first met.
Elie’s tears fell onto the rose petals.
Three years ago on that rainy night, Javon walked her home with an umbrella and said, “You can scrutinize me for a lifetime.”
Now, he held the carefully crafted ring and solemnly promised, “I want to make it official ahead of time.”
Amidst the clamor of the onlookers, she suddenly remembered the email she had received earlier that morning – an invitation to be a keynote

speaker at the International AI Medical Summit.
At the end of the email was a list of sponsors, with the first one being the Lawrence Charity Foundation.
The love, hatred, and grudges of the past have completely disappeared with the passage of time at this moment.
“I am willing, she heard herself say.”
When Javon was fumbling to put the ring on her finger, a foreign tourist recognized Elie: “Are you the planning director of ‘PulseLink Al‘ company? My daughter was diagnosed by this system!”
In the moment when the flash went off, Elie vaguely saw a man wearing
sunglasses outside the crowd.
But when she blinked again, there was only a fresh sunflower left.
On the other side, in the board of directors, several shareholders were arguing heatedly.
“Transition to public welfare? Eric, are you crazy? The majority shareholder slammed the report on the table. “Net profit dropped by 27% last year!”
Eric turned his left wristwatch – the same one as Javon’s.
On the back of the dial was engraved with a tiny “E&E“, which was secretly customized for Elie’s birthday one year, and he didn’t discover it until he was cleaning the villa.
This forgotten thing, which was overlooked by everyone, is now treasured by him as a precious possession, becoming the only thought between the two of them.

“Three things, he pressed the remote control, and the screen displayed the revised “Child Protection Act.”
“First, 20% of the profits from all profitable projects of the Lawrence Group are injected into the Anti–Bullying Fund; second, Grayson Properties, which was acquired, is completely renovated into a Welfare Home; third…”
He clicked on this morning’s international news and saw Elie smiling on the award podium.
Sponsor the global promotion of this medical AI.”
“And so, the meeting came to an end.”
Eric sighed deeply and left without looking back.
The conference room fell silent in an instant, with only a few shareholders looking at each other in dismay, ultimately shaking their heads in resignation.
