Chapter 13
Elie found a temporary job at the town library, organizing old books and recording borrowings.
The work was very quiet, no one knew her, and no one would suddenly slap her or force her to kneel down.
Although the days were a bit boring, she really enjoyed the feeling of simplicity and tranquility.
She thought she could finally catch her breath.
One evening, as she was passing by the small square in town on her way home from work, a few young girls were gathered together, pointing and chatting at their phone screens. Suddenly, one of them looked up and her gaze pierced straight towards her.
“Hey, look, isn’t that her?”
Elie paused for a moment.
The next second, the girls burst into a fit of giggles.
“It’s really her! Oh my god, those photos…”
“She looked quite innocent, but I didn’t expect her to be so wild in private.”
Elie’s blood froze in an instant.
All the bad memories flooded into her mind, and she felt like she had become a discarded toy at an auction, mocked and insulted by everyone.
Chapter 13
A bad premonition surged up in my heart.
She almost fled as if escaping, but could still hear those sharp laughter in her ears.
When Elie got home, she trembled as she opened her phone and searched for the local group of Beacon.
Sure enough, her nude photos and bed photos from the annual meeting were anonymously posted online.
The new librarian in our town used to be a “trendsetter” in a big city.
Elie bit his lip hard until he tasted blood.
She thought she had escaped far enough, but Clara still refused to let her go.
The next day, Elie did not go to the library.
She curled up in bed, her phone vibrating constantly, with one text message after another from unfamiliar numbers popping up.
How much for one night? Is 200 enough?
You have a good figure. How about being my lover? I can definitely give you more money than you earn from your current job!
What’s the point of pretending to be high and mighty when all your photos have been circulated? Who hasn’t seen your wanton appearance in bed?
She trembled as she turned off her phone and threw it into the corner of the wall, curling up into a small ball.
In the evening, the doorbell rang.
Chapter 13
Elie saw Javon standing outside the door through the peephole, holding a document in his hand.
She hesitated for a long time before finally opening the door.
Javon’s gaze fell on her pale face, his brow furrowed slightly. “Are you okay?”
Elie shook his head, his voice hoarse: “How could you…”
“The people at the library said you didn’t show up for work, and they are a bit worried, he paused, handing over the documents, “These are the IP records and evidence of the rumor spreaders. I have already contacted a lawyer, we can sue.”
Elie froze, “Why did you help me?”
Javon looked at her, his eyes calm: “Because it was wrong.”
Five simple words made Elie’s eyes well up with tears and they instantly spilled over.
She lowered her head to take the documents, her fingertips trembling slightly.
Javon didn’t ask any more questions, just gently reassured, “If you need to, I can accompany you to report to the police.”
Elie remained silent for a long time, finally whispering, “Thank
you…”
That evening, Alanna returned home with red eyes, clutching printed photos in her hands.
“Elie, are these… true?”
Elie watched as his mother’s hands trembled, her heart feeling like it had

been tightly clenched.
She felt even worse inside, and could only shake her head helplessly, “I didn’t do it willingly.”
Alanna’s tears fell all at once, and she hugged her tightly, saying, “My daughter…”
Feeling the long–lost warmth, Elie completely broke down emotionally and cried in his mother’s arms.
Alanna wiped away her tears and gritted her teeth, saying, “Let’s call the police! Let’s get to the bottom of this!”
Elie shook his head, “It’s no use… they have power a
they have power and influence.”
Alanna tightly held her hand and said, “Then let’s leave here! Mom will accompany you, we can go anywhere!”
Elie looked at his mother’s gray hair and suddenly realized…
She could not escape anymore.
ww
Even though these things were very scary, she still had to face everything head–on for the person she loved.
The rumors about Beacon were getting more and more intense, and Elie could feel the curious glances as she walked down the street.
Javon had been accompanying her to deal with the legal procedures, but the other party was obviously well–prepared, with all IP addresses being overseas proxies, making it difficult to trace.
One night, after finishing work, Elie was walking home when suddenly he noticed footsteps behind him.
Chapter 13
She quickened her pace, and the footsteps behind her quickened as well.
Just as she was about to start running, a car headlight shone towards her –
Javon’s car was parked beside her.
“Get in the car, he said, lowering the window and looking warily behind her.”
Elie opened the car door and sat down. Through the rearview mirror, she saw a dark figure quickly duck into an alley.
Javon gripped the steering wheel tightly, his voice low: “This is no coincidence.”
Elie closed his eyes and wearily leaned back in his seat.
She knew that Clara would not let her off easily.
The next day, Javon brought some news.
“There is a cultural company in the neighboring city that is hiring planners. With your qualifications, you are completely capable for the job, he paused, “If you are willing, I can recommend you.”
Elie remained silent for a long time, finally nodding and saying, “Okay.”
As she packed her bags, her mother stood at the door, wanting to speak but hesitating.
“Mom, I’ll pick you up once I’ve settled down. Elie forced a smile.”
Alanna shook her head, “Mom is not going anywhere, just waiting for you here.” She touched her daughter’s face, “Elie, don’t be afraid, keep moving forward.”
Chapter 13
Elie hugged his mother tightly as tears silently slid down his face.
From now on, she would never be a coward again.
She had to learn to fight back, giving her all to protect everyone around her.
As for the matter of the photo, she would also thoroughly investigate it to the end.
