Chapter 6
After days of unconsciousness, Caroline finally woke up. She was hysterical, demanding to see her black–finned mer–children.
However, when the children were brought to her, she went berserk. She refused to admit they were hers.
Shrieking, she claimed her womb could never have birthed such low–class, red–finned trash.
She sobbed and shouted for Sheldon to stand up for her.
However, Sheldon was cruel by nature and utterly heartless. He never loved Caroline, and he only ever used her to satisfy his carnal desires.
In the past, he would at least show some semblance of restraint out of respect for her status.
However, after she gave birth to red–finned mer–children and became the laughingstock of the royal family, he no longer cared to pretend.
Annoyed by her cries, he slapped her hard across the face a few times, then dragged her back to bed, using her day and night.
It did not take long before she was pregnant again, no less with triplets.
I was playing with the little fishes, feeding them morsels of food, when Caroline appeared.
She brought two low–ranking merfolk with her, each holding a red–finned mer–child in their arms.
The little merfolk bowed politely and greeted her, “Princess Caroline.”
She did not even spare them a glance.
Instead, she rested a condescending hand on her swollen belly and looked down at me like she was throwing alms. at a beggar.
She said airily, “Celine, your belly’s been still all this time. A true disappointment of a Pregnancy Maiden. Out of pity, I’m giving these two little ones to you. They suit you well.”
The ‘gifts‘ she spoke of were the very same red–finned mer–children she had just birthed not long ago.
I didn’t take them. Her words were absurd and borderline hysterical.
I replied calmly, “They’re your children. How could you give them away?”
She hated most of all when people reminded her she had birthed red–finned mer–children.
To her, it was nothing less than a slap across the face, a reminder of her failure.
Her expression twisted with fury. She raised her hand to slap me.
“These worthless red–fins aren’t fit to be mine! My womb is only meant to bring black–finned mer–children!”
I lifted my arm, ready to block her, but before I could move, Reginald appeared out of nowhere.
Beating me to it, he caught her wrist midair and flung it away with a steely expression.
He said coldly, “Princess Caroline, my wife isn’t someone you can raise your hand to.”
Caroline flushed with indignation. “You dare to defy me?”

Reginald’s voice dropped to an icy warning.
“We’re now under the sea, not on dry land where humans reign. Princess Caroline, I suggest you remember your place. Don’t behave like a vulgar shrew and bring shame upon my brother.”
Caroline shrieked, “I carry black–finned mer–children in my womb! I’m the future Crown Princess! How dare you humiliate me? Once I give birth, I won’t let you off so easily!”
I tugged lightly at Reginald’s sleeve, sensing he wanted to respond.
He glanced at me, caught my expression, and instantly understood.
Reginald said nothing more.
I smiled gently and said sweetly, “Then, allow me to wish you a smooth birth, dear sister. I noticed your hand is injured. Why haven’t you had a doctor examine you? If it scars, that would be unfortunate
Caroline’s eyes widened. She instinctively glanced at her exposed right forearm, where a faint wound had shown just beneath the sleeve.
Panic flashed across her face as she hastily yanked the fabric down to cover it. Then, she glared at me like she wanted to skin me alive.
She snapped, “You wouldn’t understand! These marks are proof of Sheldon’s love!”
Afraid I would notice something else, she turned and fled in a huff. However, it was not before tossing her two mer -children to the ground behind her.
She sneered. “Your womb is bare anyway. Since you’ve got nothing better to do, consider these lowborn brats a gift from your loving sister.”
